Describe the issue

T+A Roon Ready device displays Roon titles as playing but no output. Nucleus One & T+A, router all ethernet connected on LAN netgear switch. No output on both a DSD file and Qobuz stream from T+A. Plays OK on Mac laptop.
T+A Streams device input is on Roon. T+A plays streams fine on Qobuz.

Describe your network setup

Ethernet connected VZ router to Net Gear 105, Nucleus One SSD,

Hey @Steve_Summers,

Thanks for writing in and for your detailed report so far!

As a simple next step in troubleshooting, can you:

  • Stop Roon Server from running, and then power down your Nucleus.
  • Unplug the T+A MP 2500 R from the wall.
  • Power cycle your Verizon router and the Netgear switch (unplug for 30 seconds).
  • Once the router is back online, plug in the Nucleus, then the T+A.

Let us know if the issue persists afterward, thank you! :folded_hands:

Hi Benjamin, Thanks for your fast reply! Unfortunately, these steps did not solve the issue…
I was hopeful for a simple fix. I re-checked and music from a DSD file on the Nucleus One and Qobuz through Roon both stream to my Mac Laptop. No volume from either source through the T+A with Roon Ready input on LAN ethernet. The display on T+A and Iphone both show music playing to the T+A zone. THX

Hi @Steve_Summers ,

Thanks for the update and for trying those steps.

We’ve analyzed your RoonServer logs from the recent playback attempts. The diagnostics confirm that Roon is successfully streaming audio to the T+A device - we are seeing a healthy RAAT sync and the playback buffer is maintaining at 100%. This tells us that the Nucleus is sending the audio and the T+A network card is receiving it correctly.

Since Roon sees the playback as active and the device acknowledges the stream, the issue is likely occurring within the T+A’s internal signal handling (after the network stage) or is related to a specific configuration.

Could you please check the following:

  1. Signal Path: While music is playing (even if silent), please click the small colored light in the Roon footer and take a screenshot of the Signal Path. The logs indicate the signal is "Enhanced" (likely due to Volume Leveling or DSP); seeing the full path will help us verify the processing chain.
  2. Volume Logic: In Roon Settings -> Audio -> Device Setup for the T+A, check the "Volume Control" setting. If it is set to "Device Volume," please try switching it to "Fixed Volume" temporarily to see if that "wakes up" the output.
  3. DSP Check: As a test, please try disabling Volume Leveling or any active DSP to achieve a "Lossless" (purple) signal path. Occasionally, specific DSP sample rate conversions can cause handshake issues with certain DACs.
Please let us know what the Signal Path shows.

Thanks.

Alex,

Volume is set to Fixed, Volume Leveling is Off, Crossfade is 0 Seconds

MQA have gone back in forth with a min from 97-100

in Library ; Background ausio analysis speed is set fast (1 core), On Demand analysis speed is Fast

MQA , No Support althjough have tried thge diffrent settings

ReSync; 0ms, Clock mastrer 1, Enable MQA core decoder is No, was yes & No

I don’t know anything about a purple signal path.

I’m not cerain what you mean by clicking on the small coloored light on the footer. Is that the Nucleus One?

See the screen shot of the back of the unit and the T+A display.

I’ve tried the volume on the T+A remote- which I don’t use, to see if it could ‘wake up” the volume but no effect.

Please advise and LMK how we can resolve this issue.

Thanks,

(please do not my name publicly)

See here:

If Roon is playing and you can’t hear sound, you probably need to “Pump Up the Jam” (increase the volume). Your T+A likely has a built-in volume control that’s currently turned down. You can probably use a companion Software/App from T+A to check/correct the volume on the T+A device, or you can try and set the volume control method in Roon from fixed to device volume.

Hello @Steve_Summers

Thank you for your response and for the photos of your setup.

While reviewing the data from the diagnostic mode on your Roon Server, we found the specific technical reason why you aren’t hearing any sound.

In the logs, the T+A device is reporting its internal status to Roon as follows: "volume":{"min":0.0,"mute":false,"value":0,"max":100.0}}`

What this means:

  1. Volume is at 0: Your T+A MP 2500 R is currently reporting that its internal volume level is set to 0. Even though Roon is “Fixed,” the hardware itself has its own internal gain stage which is currently bottomed out.
  2. Standby Mode: The device is also reporting that its Roon source is in Standby.

Please try the following:

  1. Switch to Device Volume:(if avaliable) Change the “Volume Control” setting from Fixed Volume to Device Volume.
  2. Pump Up the Jam: Go back to the main Roon playback screen. You should now see a volume slider for the T+A. Try sliding it up to a normal listening level (e.g., 40 or 50).
  3. Check the T+A App: If you use the T+A MusicNavigator G3 app on your phone, please check the volume level there as well to ensure the hardware isn’t muted or set to 0.

Once you have increased the volume and confirmed you can hear the music, you can switch back to “Fixed Volume” in the settings if you prefer to control the volume solely through your pre-amp.

Hello @Steve_Summers ,

We’ve reopened your case as per the email reply you sent in. Just to clarify here, can you please confirm you are using the latest firmware on the T+A DAC? If there are any firmware updates available, please ensure you update it to the latest version as it may be an issue with older firmware. Can you kindly share a screenshot of your Signal Path when there is media playing? Thanks!

I preformed a firmware update, which I believed I had recently preformed, just to make certain.

Although display shows playing on the T+A display and my Mac or my Iphone with the T+A selected, Still no sound.

Then Chose Roon from T+A App

I did find a cable and plugged into the front USB input from my Mac,( USB C to USB A cable). Chose USB Media input. Display shows:

“Please Wait. Please connect USB Storage device”.

On my Mac laptop I went to my ITunes library and played on the Mac , Plugged into the front USB input. No Sound.

No change in Display; “Please Wait. Please connect USB Storage device”.

Through Roon App, the T+A switches to Roon, clicks, shows playing , No sound.

Changed Volume control to Fixed.

Volume Leveling , Auto , Target Level -14LUFS (Default), No Adjustment to Volume when Volume is Unknown . No Sound

I changed that setting to -2DB. No Sound

Changed Volume Control from Fixed to Device Volume. NO Sound

No MQA Support . On Advanced; Enable MQA Core Decoder, NO.

Hope this helps provide what we need to know..

See attached Screen shot of signal path display.

Thanks so much for your efforts. Sorry to be so burdensome with this issue, Sir.

Let me know what add’l info I can provide. Device works fine on Amazon music, Spotify connect with their app. Qobuz . Internet Radio- Airable, And of course CD disc. Bluetooth/Airplay all with T+A app

Best,

Steve

Please find a screen shot of my MAc LAptop playing with min Volume @ 98. No Sound.
Thanks again.

Steve

Hi @Steve_Summers,

Based on your screenshot, it looks like you’ve set a minimum volume limit on your Roon zone to 98, is that correct?

If so, I’d set it back to 0 just to be safe - from there you can manually adjust the volume slider to a safe level while we continue to troubleshoot.

With that, we see in fresh Roon server logs that within two seconds, the volume was commanded to jump from absolute silence to near-maximum.

  • The system unmuted (mute: false), but the value stayed at 0.
  • Then, a command was sent to set the volume to 98.
  • The "Command Storm" - then Roon sent nine identical commands (IDs 1634 through 1641) all demanding value: 98.
Caution - Volume 98 on a T+A high-end component is effectively full-throttle. If this happened while music was playing, it would have been extremely loud.

Apologies if this has been glazed over, but have you physically toggled the volume up and down on the device’s hardware remote already?

Thank you!

Hi,

Thanks for the guidance and heads up on the volume settings. I’ll put the minimum. on 10.

However, I’m not getting Any sound through the T+A, regardless of volume levels or settings; fixed,50, 98, default or otherwise.

Mac and IPhone, yes I get sound.

I’ll forward this additional data to T+A . Any other information is most welcome and appreciated. I want to resolve this and not have to send the T+A out for evaluation .

Thanks!

Hi @Steve_Summers,

Thanks for the follow-up! Let’s also perform a factory reset on the T+A for due diligence.

  • Enter the System Menu: Long-press the SYS button on the front panel or the remote control.
  • Navigate to Device Info: Use the SELECT knob (on the front) or the arrow keys (on the remote) to scroll through the menu until you see "Device Info".
  • Access the Reset Option: Press the SELECT knob (or the OK button on the remote) to enter the sub-menu. Scroll until you find "Factory Reset" or "Default Settings".
  • Confirm: Press the knob/OK button. The display will ask for confirmation (usually "Reset?"). Select Yes or press the knob again to confirm.
  • Reboot: The device will clear its memory and restart automatically.

Note that a factory reset will erase all Network settings (Wi-Fi passwords, IP configurations), streaming service logins (Tidal, Qobuz, etc.), and any User-defined presets or tone settings.

Thank you!

Great suggestion. Did that and still not getting sound. Re- Set up device with both fixed and default volume with a 15 minimum. Used default settings and No MQA, support, etc.

I welcome any and all suggestions before I need to send out the T+A out to ‘tech central’

Thanks

Hi @Steve_Summers ,

I wonder if this issue could be due to some misconfiguration of the Roon settings. I would try a temporarily fresh Roon database, with no modifications, to see if the issue reproduces. You can temporarily set your Roon database aside with the following instructions:

Let’s try a fresh database and see if your issues persist:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

Here is the process outlined from a macOS machine:
roonoldmac

You can revert the process should you wish to switch back to the old database.

Thank you I’ll try it

Be back soon

I’m traveling
