Tailscale is great for many many reasons. Simple rock solid vpn. The fact that they give six seats away for free is just so mind boggling. I feel like if you just use it for arc you are missing out. Other home services available wherever you are without an open port? Sign me up.
ARC has been a bag a hurt for me from day1. Tailscale worked much better but when I drove I would like to listen to music and ARC would just die - now I use Tidal app with much a better overall experience. I miss my playlists in Roon but it seems Roon just canāt get beyond the obvious and handle edge cases.

Tailscale can be set up easily at no cost so I suggest you give it a try. Easy to revert. I use it on my Roonserver PC, phone, and laptop and itās great. You can also integrate it with Mullvad and switch DNS servers on the Tailscale admin panel easily. I initially set it up so I could close my router and roonserverās external ports. No regrets. Would never go back. Arc works fine in my car via CarPlay. I donāt think Arc is the greatest solution yet so I usually revert to Qobuz which is better for my use case. I also use Tailscale to lock down my local network. I have tested it with ping tests and itās equally fast but I donāt use it for speed of connection. Give it a try.

I use an Innuos Zen MK3 as a Roon Core so I donāt believe I can install Tailscale on this device. The only way I have been able to get ARC to work consistently and reliability for the last 3 years is by using a third-party VPN software on my phone. Seems absurd to spend an extra $100 a year to make this work (I donāt use the VPN for anything else!)

I have AT&T fiber modem with a Ubiquiti gateway controlling the LAN in my home. It took us a couple of hours to figure out how to get the port forwarding to work. Once it was set up, havenāt had any issues with it. I moved my Roon server from a Windows PC to a Linux distribution and itās been more stable. Windows updates would invariably cause issues.
We had modem issues for a few days as it was on its last leg and had to temporarily get T-Mobile 5G home internet. Due to T-Mobileās CGNAT, ARC wouldnāt work with it since you need a dedicated IP address for port forwarding. Once the new AT&T modem arrived, ARC is stable again.
My job was converted to full-time remote earlier this year so I donāt drive much anymore. I do use ARC when Iām doing my yard work. It works great when I do have the occasion to drive.
I was not able to setup ARC when I first tried several months ago. I use a dedicated 2020 iMac 27" running OS 15.7 Sequoia as my Roon Server. Have not tried to update it to Tahoe 26.4 after I read some folks had issues with it on their Roon Server. I use 3 Rasp Pis with good DACs, a Bluesound Node, some Sonos speakers as well as endpoints and all work fine. Not sure why I couldnāt get ARC to work. I downloaded Tailscale and tried it but that didnāt work. Didnāt do a deep dive into any of this. It would be nice to have ARC but guess I need time to troubleshoot. Otherwise as an original Roon user Iām pretty happy. All recent updates have been trouble free. Should I go ahead and update to Tahoe 26.4? Would be curious if anyoneās having issues.
I have no issues with the latest tahoe. I think you should be fine.

I donāt use arc, too complicated for me. I just put 1800 tracks on an SD on my phone and tablet and use that instead.
