Testing Amps

Hi guys. Maybe this is a stupid question and some people will laugh.

I am testing my tube amps with my Hugo 2, using the HD 800S. So what I did was to group the output that goes to my tube amps with the Hugo 2 and then simply test each amp by plugging into each of them.

For both audio outputs I have an EQ profile in Muse for the HD 800S. All this time, I was not hearing any major differences between the amps, and then I thought to simply disable the EQ in Roon and try it again.

Now I clearly hear the differences between the amps.

How does that make sense though? I mean, why would the differences in the amps be clear without the EQ profile and when using the EQ for both zones, to sound almost identical?

Your headphone EQ settings are sufficient to correct for both amps’ deficiencies to the extent that the remaining differences are difficult to hear?

Was that a question or statement :grinning:

The last shards of linguist in me thinks it’s a “declarative question” in English?
