The birth of the 45 rpm record

That was just a little before my time.

Late 50’s early 60’s I had a portable 45rpm player, but my parents had a table top 78rpm with AM radio. I remember playing some of their 78’s, but the music, mostly country, wasn’t to my taste. I inherited that player, and eventually got rid of it about 1998. It was in pretty bad shape with some exterior water damage.

I remember 45rpm versions of the Righteous Brother’s “Little Latin Loupe lu”, Stevie Wonder’s " Finger Tips 1 & 2 (which I found fascinating), and the Dave Clark Five “Bits and Pieces” “Glad All Over” I played my limited collection over and over.

In '64 we got a Sears Silvertone tabletop portable fold out LP player, but my parents thought that Stereophonic was a little too new, so got the mono version.

I thought they were called 45s when I first started buying them in the 70s because they were 45p each

Imagine my surprise when they went up to 47p :open_mouth:
