Stay safe Jim and hold fast.
You are lucky , last year we went on holiday only to find on our return that the power had failed with a main board trip . This is not uncommon in some of the more viscous thunder storms. We couldn’t get through the garage door so we had to smash a window
Worse than that was the smell of the 2 freezers , quietly rotting in a corner.
Hi fi was safe and unplugged but white appliances like fridges and freezers stay plugged in …
Just be thankful you don’t get spectacular lightening storms , they look pretty BUT
Man If I used my Wife’s electric knife on wood in the garage, She’d soon try using the freshly dulled blade on my man parts…OUCH!
It wasn’t wood, it was the rock wool insulation slabs. Worked great. No electric kitchen knives were damaged during this construction.
Congratulations Jim, good to have you around!
Happy birthday Jim, though I feel that you we already here when I joined, but maybe not.
Let’s look forward to the next 5 years with Roon
Happy Birthday, Jim. Best wishes.
Happy Rooniversary.
Happy Roonday…
Always sounds so freakin’ good when I return home after being away two or three weeks.
Headphones are good, but not the same.
Just ripped my one and only CD using dbpowerbase. This is my son’s ska band from back in his UGA days. dbpowerbase is really easy to use and works well, but I deleted it since I only needed to use it once.
I almost screwed myself, but not quite. I started wondering if I could use an ethernet dongle with ethernet from my Dell laptop to RPi4 instead of WIFI. WIFI works fine but I was really wondering if that might work as a way to connect a Roon Nucleus One when away from home.
So, in trying this, I turned off WIFI on my RPi4 and could no longer connect. When I turned off WIFI on the RPi4 it did a reconfiguration and seemed to get stuck. Long story short, I reburned the chip, but have no ethernet connection to do the RoPieee setup.
I thought I was doomed to use Roon ARC for the next two weeks, but I tried using my new iPad Gen 10 as a bridge to my Mojo2, and the sound is as good as with the RPi4. There is absolutely no unwanted noise. I don’t use a direct connection from my Dell because the USB is noisy from the Dell.
So, bottom line, maybe I will no longer need to use the RPi4 when away from home. One less device to fool with. When I get home, I will also burn two RoPieee chips and setup both for WIFI connection, just to have a spare.
After three days of using my iPad Gen 10 as an endpoint or Roon bridge to my DAC, I have determined I prefer using the RPi4. The RPi4 seems less cumbersome and easier while using my iPhone and two iPads for Verizon cellular data with Speedify.
So, when I get home in two weeks, I’ll burn two micro sd cards and set up both for WIFI connection to my Verizon hotspot network. I wish there was a way to do this without an ethernet connection.
There normally is when you flash an OS on your SD-card. When you use Raspberry Pi Imager, fill in your WIFI credentials before you flash your SD card in the settings dialogue .
I flashed the card with no issues. You need an ethernet connection to do the initial RoPieee setup and activate WIFI. I’m not running the Raspberry Pi OS, I’m running RoPieee.
I’ve not done it - but I believe you can now setup Ropieee from scratch without Ethernet.

Thanks a bunch. I’ll check that out.
EDIT: That worked. Thank you sir. All is good again at the MIL’s house.
I just cancelled my annual Qobuz subscription for budgetary reasons before it renews on November 7. My BCBS Medicare supplement is going up $51 per month and wife’s is going up $44 per month. I may resubscribe after I get my 2025 budget figured out.
I’m trying not to dip into my Roth IRA tax free accounts.
I hope all goes well Jim, take care and keep the music playing.
