The musical limits of Nugs

Nugs teaming up with Roon is like the singer of Spin Doctors joining Steely Dan. A jam-band service for American stoners.

Jesus. Are we going to say things about Classical and its users next?

Alternatively, it’s a service that we can choose to subscribe to…..or not; freedom is a wonderful thing.

Not just American stoners; they have a partnership with King Crimson (DGM) and hundreds of their live shows. What’s not to like?

I have to say I agree - signed up this afternoon. While some I will enjoy - listening to Little Feat this afternoon - the selection for me is somewhat limited.

I love going to Jazz Festivals, my local jazz club or clubs in cities I visit but really no live jazz / small club selections in their collection. They have been around for some time so thinking this is not a direction they are going to head in - therefore probably not going to be a service for me even though I love the potential here.

I was surprised that the Nugs video doesn’t stream out via Chromecast. Seems like a Roon user is potentially overpaying for the subscription.

Also, from what I’ve listened to so far, the quality of many of the recordings isn’t great.

$25/month - not for me

Qobuz is essentially $15/month for the highest tier including nicely discounted purchases. That’s for unlimited access to over 100 million tracks. Nugs is 250,000, for $25/month.

I will be turning it off well before the 60 day trial ends.

Indeed, and I read only about 600 artists

Come on Roon, please, what did you say ‘something big…’?

I’d much rather you fixed problems and added requested features than adding additional source links…

Check out Charlie Hunter, I really enjoyed his 2/17/2006 show at the Jazz Standard in NYC.

Could be because a good number of releases are in MQA :man_shrugging:

In theory this make sense as an integration to Roon and would have a lot of potential if the library of live concerts wasn’t so narrow in focus. I don’t know if Nugs has any plans to diversify and extend the library but currently it is not something I would sign up to.

As such, there were plenty of enhancements to Roon I would have liked to see take priority over this and hope it did not take up too much of the developer bandwidth.

It would be good if Roon published a roadmap for future enhancements. Perhaps they do but I’ve not seen it.

You beat me too it

So wait. Are you saying Roon users are likely to be American stoners?

No, we’re Steely Dan.

American stoners for sure.

I’ve heard that The Grateful Dead will be available on NUGS via a separate subscription.

Really, have you got a link or any reference to a quote about that?

I closed my nugs account and disabled it in Roon today. I’m certain there must be some satisfied users in the Roon community, but it wasn’t for me. I suppose I should have looked at their catalog before I dove in.
