The power of Roon (Virtualbox experiment)

Today I fiddled around a bit with a portable RoonServer setup:

  • MacBook Air 11" (2013 – 1,3Ghz i5)
  • VirtualBox VM (1 CPU core, 1GB RAM)
  • DietPi (minimal Debian) OS

Installed RoonServer, connected to the music folder via SMB. MacBook Air connector wirelessly (802.11ac) to an Airport Extreme. In this rather minimal setup Roon imported 15K tracks in < 30 mins, while playing two 96/24 streams to two different zones – without a single hiccup.

Color me impressed.
