Thinking of change from Qobuz to Tidal

Hey All,

I’m thinking of moving from Qobuz ( which I’ve used via roon for a few years) to Tidal.

Can anyone from the community tell me is this going to be a really big deal. I.e will roon be able to adjust my favourites etc based on the chosen subscription or is it a work of pain.

Will the new play list functionality be able to help with missing songs.

Roon will not do it. Use Soundiz.

Interestingly I never used the Qobuz app but now that I look into it, it seems roon has been creating a library for me in it behind the scenes.

So is it just a case of using some software (sounddiz or other) to sync with tidal and then roon will pick that up?

Will roon be clever enough to pick up:

  1. liked songs
  2. fav albums
  3. playlist songs

Use Soundiz to transfer your Tidal favorites to Qobuz. Qobuz will sync those to your Roon library.

Roon connects to both Qobuz and Tidal the same way as their respective apps do.

If you favorite an album it places that album in your Qobuz favorietes. The same way as the Qobuz app would.

Roon doesn’t use a separate library. It uses your Qobuz one.

You will be able to transfer the roon added albums in your qobuz account to tidal.

I might be wrong but, your play history, likes and favorites marked in roon will be lost as the are attached to the Qobuz specific version.

Roon will not do this. You have to do it manually or use Soundiz or some other 3rd party app.

So it looks like soundiiz does not sync any liked songs at all just albums tracks etc. favourites must be stored in the roon database.

So it looks like my only option is to go through them all manually. Hmmmm

Why can’t roon keep its properties in sync across the services it hosts. ( tidal and Qobuz) that would be a great addition to the software.

So if I have the same album and it finds another version on another service it would like that too.

Because play history and likes are attached to specific album versions not to general albums names.

I sometimes have 3 different versions of an album, play history and likes are attached to each individual version.

Tidal and Qobuz albums are different versions to Roon.

Quick question - why are you changing? Thanks!

The prices are now inline with Qobuz (if not cheaper) now that Tidal have merged their tiers. But mainly, It works natively on my naim NDS and Muso-qb first generation where qobuz doesn’t. My wife can now use the Naim app directly more easily.

But it’s a real pain having to deal with all the tags and favourites that Roon references directly.

I honestly think Roon need to look at this seriously from a software perspective as over a life time people will change streaming services for whatever reasons.

Their software layer should be more abstracted from the service. I can only imagine if I had a few more years of roon use (bigger library) it would be impossible to make the change.

What would happened if a streaming service went bust? All the benefits of roon would be mitigated.

I don’t think its an impossible task, I would imagine a modification on the new playlist functionality where they find alternative tracks for unavailable ones would be a starting point.

I don’t know how well Qobuz is doing financially. However I do know Tidal is not doing good. They laid of 10% of their personel last year. And I’ve read a little while ago that their CEO want to sack another load of people. And Tidal’s parent company is planning to invest less into Tidal and more into their other activities.

So yeah. Your concerns are valid.
