Thoughts on development plans for Roon under Harman International

time to break the toxic depe dency on their disfunctional cloud and give back to their customer base the ability to enjoy music at home in a fail safe environment.

This from Bauer radio stations:

'We’ve been busy working on our new Rayo app, which features all Bauer’s radio stations including Kiss, Magic, Absolute, Kerrang!, Planet Rock, Greatest Hits Radio, Hits Radio, Scala, Jazz FM and lots more! We’ve been developing new features and experiences for Rayo and would like to test them with real listeners like yourself.

Rayo is a new radio and audio experience for you to listen to your favourite Bauer stations.

Roon might request to be licensed to include this app.

Harman might change that if they loosen the requirements for adding music services.

My hunch is this is a very likely scenario .

Even Spotify allows you to add and integrate your ripped cd music library to your added music from their service.

I think this brings up a bit of a bigger issue, in that many don’t understand how Roon actually works. And if many actual users don’t understand, then those standing on the other side of the fence will have an even harder time being brought into the fold.

Maybe, but did you read the list that Danny posted about all the things that Apple wouldn’t allow Roon to do? At this point, what would even be the purpose of using Roon together with Apple Music?

I agree, but all the information is on the forum. Nobody is forced to post in this thread, but if they do then nobody is prevented from looking up the facts before doing so, either

I am finding it difficult to understand people who are suggesting that Harman (Samsung) and Apple can cooperate. Their sales strategy is the same Sell Hardware. Why should either side help the other at their own expense.

Music streaming is Apples means to an end , they virtually admit as such.

Maybe something has rotted my brain :cocktail:

Not so sure. If Roon (Harman) follows this suggestion and dumbs down the product enough to fit into Apple’s ecosystem, it will become a common media player, maybe with slightly better metadata, not the Roon we are using. And those are dime a dozen…

Another big item to check is energy management on mobile devices. As it stands now, Roon Remote app on iOS and iPadOS are an energy eater, by a large scale.
Roon/Harman has to improve the enrgy and resources usage of these apps.

Well the Roon team is still in charge of the development. Not Harman.

Where on earth did you get that idea :smiling_imp:

Maybe the nuts and bolts of design and coding but the general strategic design? Why else would they buy them

My annual renewal is next week , lets see where we stand for Xmas 2024 renewal, all may be revealed by then or NOT .

Sure the top decision makers are Harman now - but I think to quite some extent they rely on the evaluation of the Roon team.
I am with you that priority setting and a new quality awareness are needed.

yes, its when the Accountants and economists start to dismantle the "original concept " of Roon. That is what worries me. The overall quality going downhill to feed shareholders and satisfy their economists.

Big thanks for listening and releasing build 2.0.26 without new features.
Looking forward to and wishing fine Christmas holidays to the Roon team.

I think Locutus from Borg proves you wrong. He managed to keep his distinctiveness in the end, while profiting from beeing part of the Colective for some time… Cheers!

I’m hoping for music and hardware related playlists and podcasts from respected YT luminaries, stitched into our homepage.
Anything cable burn in and jitter related please.
