Description Of Issue
Lately Tidal stops responding at regular intervals. What happen is that no music is playable and I can’t even browse the Tidal section.

Restarting the QNAP server or just restarging Roon on the QNAP fixes it, but it’s very annoying that it keeps happening? This wasn’t the case some months ago.

How big is your library. Albums, tracks.
I’m sure you know your NAS is under the recommended processor power so that might come into it.
Roon should also be on a solid-state disk certainly not raid 5.

Hi @Ettrig,

As Ged mentioned, your QNAP falls below our requirements so that could definitely play into things. There are some details and tests that will help us determine if this is the case or if it’s something else.

  1. Can you let us know how many tracks total are in your library? You can find this by going to Settings > Overview
  2. Does this same behavior occur for all endpoints? If you play to System Output of a remote device do things work okay?
  3. If you play local content does the same issue occur?

Hey there. My QNAP is running at 10-25% CPU load, and RAM usage is about 50% it seems, so I think it should be okay… I am currently testing running all Roon endpoints playing different music from Tidal (5 endpoints) and the load on the QNAP is only 18%. I only run Roon on the QNAP… I guess I could consider trying to host Roon on another device…

  1. I have about 3000 songs in my library, but I don’t use the library a lot. I kind of only use Tidal and Internet Radio to some extent…

  2. Right now it’s working since I restarted the Roon-server. I will report back regarding this once I have the issue occuring again.

  3. I am 90% sure local content from the library works when the Tidal-issue occurs, but I’ll come back with a response on that once I have the issue again.

Also, which type of disk I run it on should not matter that much since I mainly use it for Tidal-playback?
(response to @ged_hickman1, regarding SSD)

Is SSD really crucial? I guess it’s about time to look for a new device to run Roon on then…

Is that 3000 songs in the roon library or 3000 local songs.

Good question

What’s the difference between local songs and roon library?

I have ~3000 flac songs on my QNAP, which I added to Roon.

Your roon library is made up of your own files, stuff you’ve favourites in the native Tidal and Qobuz apps and things from those services that you have selected “add to library” in roon.
So I’ve got about say 5,000 local tracks but 10,000 tracks in my library from Tidal.
Once they are in your library you can  them and this will influence roon radio toward those tracks, artists etc.

Okay, I have found out that Roon has imported 2500 songs that I had as Flac-files in my QNAP.
I think my library has 2832 tracks in total, if this is the Overview section in question.

Ok that’s not too big a library. If you have another pc or Mac you could try running roon temporarily on that and see if it the same or better.

Hi @Ettrig,

Does this always go away after a reboot? How long does it take to get back into this state typically? Have you noticed any patterns in what seems to trigger this behavior?

This would definitely be helpful to know and will help us better identify where the issue might be stemming from.

Yes, we always recommend that your Core machine use an SSD.
