TIDAL now disconnects when my VPN is active. What changed?

Roon Core Machine

Roon on a Windows 10 pc.

Description of Issue

Roon & TIDAL used to work without issues with Mullvad VPN. Not anymore.

Under Settings - Services TIDAL shows as signed in.
Now as soon as I connect the VPN, Roon complains: “TIDAL login failed. Retry/Edit”.
Clicking Edit opens TIDAL in my browser, where I can login without problems: “You’ve successfully connected your TIDAL account. Return to Roon if your browser doesn’t automatically redirect you…”

Roon just shows: “Waiting for TIDAL login” and finally times out.

I had already added both Roon and RAATServer to the VPN exclusion list (split tunneling) a long time ago. But it seems this isn’t sufficient anymore.

How do I get Roon to work with my VPN again?

Googling pointed me towards this post:

“Split-tunneling breaks more things than it fixes, it doesn’t get the routing table quite right.”

So I removed both Roon and RAATserver from the VPN ‘split tunneling’ list, and surprisingly this seems to have solved the problem. TIDAL tracks show up in the library. Roon app on my phone also connects. Mullvad settings all to Automatic by the way.
