TIDAL replacing albums with same ID but higher MQA quality

Maybe this is old news to you, but I just noticed that TIDAL has replaced MQA versions of albums with higher quality ones (bitrate wise) but keeping the same album ID.

For instance, Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here with album ID 7909701 used to be FLAC 44.1kHz 16bit, MQA 44.1kHz but now is FLAC 48kHz 24bit, MQA 192kHz.

Same is true for many other albums that I checked. Guessing this is HiFi Plus related. Though the 16bit version originally showed as MASTER quality.

Say what you will about MQA, but esp. given how the compression works those 8 extra bits surly don’t hurt.

Just a heads up I figured some of you might find interesting.

Also, Happy New Year!

This is probably once of the most contentious issues in the community and there’s many a “hackle” has been raised. Beware, MQA talk can cause lynch mobs to appear :joy:
