· Logging out and back in had no impact, the issue remains

What are the make and model of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?

· Wired Wiim Amp (updated to the latest firmware: no change)

Describe the issue

Tidal tracks stop playing after a short time, generally 6 seconds.
This behaviour started a few dys ago, and does not affect all tracks, but a track affected will always stop playing no matter how many times I try.
I tried Tidal direct, both from the computer I use the Roon software on and the one that runs the Roon server, and everything is fine with Tidal.

Describe your network setup

Everything is wired: Roon Server on a windows 11 PC, wired to the router. I tun Roon software on a mac or various iOS devices. The endpoint is a Wiim amp (wired to the network as well)

Additional information:
I noticed the same Tidal tracks palyed flawlessly through ARC in my car …
I then tried another endpoint, my mac and then again it plays well.
This leads me to question the Wiim Amp ! I changed a few ‘device settings’ in Roon with no success.
I changed the entwork connection of the Wiim from wired to wifi … and now it works !
I am not too happy of this solution as usually ethernet is better than wireless … any idea why this behavior ?
Thanks

Thierry

Hi @Thierry_Baroghel ,

Thanks for reaching out.

This suggests that there is something going on with the Ethernet connection, have you tried a different Ethernet cable, or a different port on the router? If you’re using any switches/range extenders/powerline adapters, you can try to bypass those as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes there is a switch and I will try to bypass it and use a brand new cat8 cable to see if wired works again. What puzzles me is that happened sort of out of the blue when it was working flawlessly since I started using Roon several months ago. I will post the results after the changes.

Hi @Thierry_Baroghel
Did bypassing the switch stop the dropouts from happening?

I tried this morning with a brand new 10 meter cat.8 cable bypassing the switch, but no success: the same Tidal songs stop exactly at the same moment. So, back to Wifi for my WiiM until we think of something else. It feels somehow counterintuitive, but that’s what works, and it’s the most important after all.
Thanks for your concern.

Hi @Thierry_Baroghel,

Thank you for your post. Diagnostics indicate that there are two interleaved issues at the network level. Since the WiiM accepts higher-resolution files for playback, it’s the first to manifest the issue.

First, there is inadequate bandwidth for the distribution of larger files from RoonServer to various endpoint caches. If the symptom is agnostic to the connection type (Ethernet/WiFi), then I recommend investigating whether any QoS settings or other managed network features in your router firmware might be interfering.

Make sure that any mesh nodes have multicast forwarding enabled.

Does the WiiM manifest the issue if you downsample everything from Tidal to a lower quality?

Please share a screenshot of the Signal Path in Roon for the WiiM, along with a timestamp of the most recent dropout at 0:06.

Thank you!

Hi @connor, Thanks for helping me.
The issue is dependant on the network type: fails in wired, passes everything on WiFi.
Here are three screen copies with time stamp in their filename.
The WiiM Amp is wired. The first time, it fails, Wiim is set at 192 KHz. Once set at 48 KHz (file 2) or 96 KHz (File3), it works.
I do not know how to limit Tidal itself, so I did it on the WiiM settings, in roon client on MacOS.

Is this enough for you to follow your investigation ?
Thanks and Regards from Paris,
Thierry

Hey @Thierry_Baroghel,

Thanks for the update!

You can navigate to Roon Settings > Services > Tidal > Edit > playback quality and select a lower resolution.

Our team was able to review a fresh diagnostic report from your Roon Server around the timestamp you’ve provided, and the logs strongly suggest that network issues are contributing to the playback failure.

We see repeated high RTT values (e.g., 283000us or 283 ms), which are significant for real-time audio streaming. This latency can disrupt smooth playback and is often a sign of network congestion or instability. These are followed by dropouts exceeding the threshold needed for steady playback, which ultimately leads to stoppage of playback.

Following this:

  1. Are you able to test out a less congested Wi-Fi band (5 GHz for higher speeds, 2.4 GHz for better range)?
  2. Were you able to review and QoS settings on your Router? This could help the router to prioritize audio streaming traffic.
  3. Perhaps testing out a different DNS server from your Roon Server machine may help - such as Google (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1).

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :raised_hands:

Hi,
The issue is not about WiFi: it works flawlessly when the WiiM is conneted to the network via WiFi. Only when the WiiM is connected with ethernet wire does Tidal troough roon have the issue (Tidal connect to WiiM or playing from My NAS is Okay).
I tried changing the DNS server: no change
I do not know how to change QoS settings on my Orange Livebox router.
So, fo now, I will stick with the wireless WiiM solution, as it works the best (no problem whatsoever, including Tidal thru roon in Max quality).
Thanks for your support,

Thierry
