Hi I’ve just setup Roon ARC (I had to call my ISP to disable CGNAT, after months of trying to workout why it wouldn’t work).
I can’t browse Tidal albums, new releases, genres etc via ARC ?

That’s correct.
Any word from devs if this is planned?
Seems a bit bare?
Who are you with bud?
BELONG NBN. They had to ask for evidence of what wasn’t working, so sent screenshots and links to some Roon threads that CGNAT needs disabling
After that, they did it and its been good since
What extra data would be consumed? This doesn’t make much sense.
Thats great, I had similar issues with AussieBB during early access and had to ask them to disable CGNAT but since they implemented IPv6 that issue seems to have gone away.
Not it’s bare bones and is a big disappointment on this regard. Given we use Roon for its advanced features it’s like going back in time with ARC. If your away an on Friday and want to browse new releases you can’t so have to go into an another app, which defeats needing ARC really. Doesn’t support bookmarks which would also be a very useful feature on the go. Multidisc albums also don’t work well as you can’t choose the disc to play at all. But they added the ability to browse folders!!! Woo hoo.
But it’s the overall the stability of playback over cellular needs a lot of work. Roon still seems to think everywhere has perfect reception, reality of the situation is we don’t. Its inability to cache enough ahead to cover holes in cellular is its biggest Achilles heel. You get no control over this function either so you can’t adapt it for your own environment and needs. Works fine if you have solid coverage but here in the UK we don’t get that with massive over utilisation of the networks , you can go from 5G to nothing quite quickly and back again and ARC doesn’t recover well from these scenarios at all. Using a well known other app I don’t get the same problems.
Also its reliance on port forwarding is just archaic and causes way more support threads than the app should have. They should have built a relay into it to connect without all the hassles of this or added its own peer to peer using Wireguard or similar. But no they now advise users to install another 3rd party application and have some knowledge of how to set it up if your ISP want move you off CGNAT which many won’t, or you can’t change settings due to ISP lock in you just can’t use it. Again no issues with another well known app here.
Has Roon said that Tidal browsing is on the roadmap for ARC? Or no comments?
I searched and can’t find.
Nope not a thing. You have to know what you want to play and search and hope Roon finds it.
Yeh this aspect is a joke. Sure someone will say I could just use the Tidal app.
But I can’t add 10 band parametric EQ to iOS Tidal app, in my car or headphones use with phone. That’s what Roon can do.
But not ARC (yet)
The feature suggestion is here:
Wow 2 years its been requested
Roon’s evolution can be glacially slow but I’m hopeful that they will eventually get there . Roon seem to have other priorities right now.
I know that it doesn’t help you right now
Roon does not have a public roadmap , they have always declared that they will not release details what they are working on and any time scale surrounding that.
The only exception that I know of was folder browsing and box set handling declared shortly after the acquisition. Even then no time scale is declared , box sets are yet to materialize.
I personally don’t criticize this , imagine the outcry if they promise 1 October 24 for something and DON’T make it.
roadmap does not mean actual date
can day it is on roadmap without any dates
Roadmaps without dates change, too, and sometimes an item on the roadmap won’t be finished or delayed for long times
Of course, I was just curious if theyve talked about it
I don’t think they have. There are some cases where they add [on roadmap] to the titles of feature suggestions (e.g., ARC version for iPad) but they haven’t done that for Tidal/Qobuz browsing. But then, sometimes they work on something without adding [on roadmap]
Either way , they don’t publish it with or without dates so as not to raise expectation.
They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t
