Describe the issue
Tidal on Roon keeps searching for ‘what’s new’ and ‘playlists’ it shows ‘explore’ and ‘tidal library’. This issue started yesterday March 27
Describe your network setup
Roon server is connected to Qnap. Roon app is on iPad, Macbook and iPhone. All devices are updated to most recent ios.
I’ve been looking through your diagnostics, but I’m not seeing a clear error message that explains the “infinite search” yet. To help me pin this down in the logs, could you please perform a quick test?
Open the Tidal page in Roon on your iPad or MacBook.
Click on “What’s New” and let it spin for about 30 seconds.
Note the exact time and your time zone when you do this.
Once you provide that timestamp, I can correlate it with the background activity in your Roon Server to see if it’s a network “handshake” failure or a database sync error.
One quick thing to check in the meantime: Since your Roon Server is connected to a QNAP, have you tried simply logging out of Tidal (Settings > Services > Tidal > Edit > Logout) and then logging back in? This often refreshes the specific “tokens” Roon uses to fetch those curated playlists.
Please let me know that timestamp once you’ve tried to load the page!
3:07 pm NY time, still spinning at 3:08/pm. I have deleted both Roon and Tidal apps, installed anew and logged in to Tidal in Roon app. Issue not solved. I can open My Tidal collection, not What’s new.
Thanks for the update and timestamp! The fact that “Explore” and “My Tidal Library” are working means the Roon Server has successfully authenticated with Tidal and can pull basic account data. However, the infinite spinning on “What’s New” and “Playlists” indicates that the specific API requests directed at Tidal’s curated content servers are either failing to complete, timing out, or getting truncated.
Since the Roon Server database caches API responses, a corrupted cache can cause specific pages to spin indefinitely.
Move the contents of the /Cache folder elsewhere, like your desktop
Try restarting Roon Server via the WebUI and verify if the issue still occurs
With that, when some Tidal endpoints load while others time out, it often points to a DNS resolution issue or a routing failure by your ISP. If the Roon Server cannot resolve the specific content delivery networks (CDNs) Tidal uses for dynamic playlists, the request will hang.
Change the DNS settings on the router or the Roon Server machine to a reliable public DNS, such as Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8).
If a network-wide ad blocker (like Pi-hole) or a strict firewall is active, temporarily disable it to verify if specific Tidal telemetry or API endpoints are being blocked.
Also, if you haven’t yet, I’d also test out connecting your Roon Server directly to your primary router via ethernet.
Thanks for your elaborate response. I am not at home for the coming week. But Tuesday Tidal started working again as usual. So hopefully it was a temporary issue.
