Description Of Issue

1-Played tracks from local library end prematurely. Seems random not depending on source quality. History typically shows these tracks at 95% complete but not always. Same tracks will play fine at later time. No crossfading enabled. No DSP enabled.

Problem is not evident on system when not using Roon, i.e. when using Sonos Controller, desktop or ap,

2-Sonos devices frequently do not leave zones when deselected, or will lose audio stream.

Hi @Stacy_Saveall,

Does the same issue occur if you connect via WiFi instead of SonosNet?

Does this issue occur when the zones are played to individually or are you playing to them in a group?

I only play in groups. It does seem to be more frequent in larger groups.

Checking thru my logs and history it does seem to be much more evident with low signal path when source is AAC or MP3. (Local or Tidal Premium)

I played a few hours of local FLAC without it occurring.

RE: wired/wireless…i just switched to wireless and will take note. I did immediately note much more responsive control of volume on each Sonos speaker in a large zone (6 speakers) in wireless mode.

*UPDATE - changing to completely wireless made no difference in songs ending early either local or from Tidal. Local .FLAC files do seem to have less problems. Wireless may have improved control issues somewhat, but zone speakers will still drop out as well, S1s and Moves.

No problems at all playing local or Tidal HiFi (upgraded over weekend) with Sonos Controller, App or Third Party SonosPad or playing to Sonos from same local library via MediaMonkey (I know it’s completely different animal.)

Also will note the History displayed in the Roon Remote is not accurate in regards to % played…several songs ended early and displayed 100% played.

That’s all for now…:frowning:

Hi @Stacy_Saveall,

Thanks for testing the WiFi vs SonosNet further.

Can I please next ask that you try to reproduce this issue on a single zone and let me know the exact local time + date + track you experience this behavior with?

Once I have this information, I can enable diagnostics mode and what that does is upload a log set to our servers for review.

As luck would have it…I actually started doing this last night, albeit mostly unattended. Played several hours of local media, mostly lossy, to a single zone. Did not see from history any 95% finished songs. There were songs apparently skipped completely (0% played) at the following times:

09/15 03:57:23 Steve Forbert - Romeo’s Tune
09/15 04:50:25 Michael Nesmith - Joanne
09/15 06:42:04 Rachel Harrington - You Don’t Know Me
09/15 07:57:03 Kim Carnes - If I Was An Angel
09/15 12:27:44 Dave Mason - We Just Disagree

ADDED A SECOND PLAYER (SOLARIUM-MOVE) TO ZONE @ 18:53 NO ISSUES
ADDED TWO MORE PLAYERS (LIVING ROOM AND LIVING ROOM 2) @ 20:21:29

SKIPPED SONGS:

09/15 21:10:40 Allison Krauss - Til I Gain Control Again
09/15 21:47:33 Greg Holden - The Lost Boy

Currently back to playing single zone again…

Also for all of the above:

*I have switched back to “wired” network (though for single zone I’m using a wireless S1)
*Went to both my machines with Sonos Controllers and Ungrouped all speakers and exited. Ditto of iOS app.

Hope that helps.

UPDATE No dropouts playing single zone after 12 hours continuous play. Mixed lossy/lossless and Tidal HiFI. So, I’d say NOT reproducible in single zone.

Hi @Stacy_Saveall,

Thanks for those timestamps! Can I please request that you next use these instructions to send me a set of your ROCK logs (Option 1)? If you have any issues accessing logs or don’t have a file transfer service, just let me know.

Hi Noris,

Is there anything new on my case since Sept. 20? I have not heard back.

I continue to have issues with Roon, I believe specifically RATT, having control issues in mult-zone playback. After many hours of listening I’m going to make the educated guess there is something amiss with the transport layer communicating with the Sonos endpoints which is causing the delayed playback on the endpoints. This can vary from a couple seconds to several seconds or have endpoint audio completely dropout until I adjust volume with the slider back and forth which will bring the endpoint “back to life.”

I’ve tried to narrow this down to the density/quality of the audio stream but it happens with low quality and high quality files.

As I’ve mentioned before, the problem does not occur using the Sonos contoller or using MediaMonkey to push audio to all endpoints. Also does not happen with Hi-Fi Tidal streams.

Thanks in advance,

Stacy

P.S. Since my original post I have updated my network to use an ASUS RT-AX88U AX6000 router. This has made no difference to this issue. I have also gone back to a strictly wireless setup, no SonosNet.

Hi @Stacy_Saveall,

Thank you for the additional information here, let me check with the team on your case and get back to you!

Since you are using an ASUS router, can you please confirm you also have this setting enabled?

ASUS Routers

We recommend enabling “Enable Multicast Routing” option in settings.
