Transferring Roon database from Nucleus+ to Eversolo T10 with second account (ref#3EFLR5)

The Eversolo T10 is only an Endpoint to Roon and not a computer you can run Roon Server on, IIRC.

Roon’s database is account bound so you can’t transfer anything using a backup.

Please don’t create several threads for the same question. I answered your questions on migration and backups in your other thread: Transferting Roon Database from Nucleus+ to Eversolo T10 (ref#AVFKIQ)

However, I had assumed that you had done the homework and that the Eversolo is a Roon Server. Apparently not, so thanks to @BlackJack for catching this here in this thread.

· Transfer Roon database, playlists and tags from Nucleus+ to Eversolo T10 using a second Roon account

Hello Roon Community,

I am currently using a Roon Nucleus+ Rev. A with my existing Roon account. Over the years, I have built up a fairly extensive Roon database containing playlists, tags, favourites, metadata edits and other personal library information.

I am now planning to use an Eversolo T10 as an additional streamer/system. The Eversolo T10 will be operated with a second, separate Roon account.

Before setting up the new system, I would like to understand exactly which parts of my existing Roon database can be transferred.

My main questions are:

1. Can I create a full Roon database backup on my Nucleus+ Rev. A and restore this backup on another Roon installation that is logged into a different Roon account?

2. Is a Roon database backup tied to the original Roon account, or can it be restored under another account?

3. If a full database restore under a different account is not possible, is there another method to transfer or copy the following data:

* playlists
* tags
* favourites
* bookmarks
* metadata edits
* album/artist identification changes
* library organisation
* listening history, if applicable?

4. Are tags and playlists stored entirely within the Roon database, or can they be exported separately and later imported into another Roon installation?

5. Would exporting playlists as M3U files preserve only the track references, or is there any way to preserve the associated Roon tags and other organisational information as well?

6. If the same local music files are made available to the second system, will Roon correctly reconnect the restored database information to these files even if the storage path is different?

7. Is there any supported procedure for migrating a Roon library from one account to another, or would both systems need to use the same Roon account in order to preserve the complete database?

My music files themselves are stored separately, so copying the audio files is not the main issue. My main concern is preserving the many playlists, tags and manual edits that I have created over the years.

Ideally, I would like to keep my existing Nucleus+ installation unchanged while creating a second, independent Roon installation on the Eversolo T10 with as much of my existing library structure as possible.

I would be very grateful for advice on the safest and officially recommended procedure.

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,
Kurt

Edit: The Eversolo is not a Roon Server, as pointed out in your other thread here: Transferring Roon database from Nucleus+ to Eversolo T10 with second account (ref#3EFLR5) - #2 by BlackJack

Generally about migration (to an actual Roon Server) and backups:

Yes

Tied to the original account

They are in the database and hence backup. Roon tags are not anywhere else. Playlists can theoretically be exported. If they are Qobuz or Tidal playlists, they are also stored in the Q/T account and sync back from there if you set up a new Roon Server with the same Q/T account logged in.

No. But as you can create and restore a backup (in the same Roon account), it’s rather a moot question in this case.

Yes, if you perform the migration correctly by following the documentation.

As mentioned, you can transfer backups only if you use the same Roon account. (However, you can get several licenses under one account, and then they are transferable. See your other thread: Transferring Roon database from Nucleus+ to Eversolo T10 with second account (ref#3EFLR5) - #2 by BlackJack)

@Kurt_Kohse,

I’ve merged your two technical support requests on this topic so all the history is together and to mitigate against cross posting.

Hi @Kurt_Kohse,

Thank you for your post.

Other Roon users like @Suedkiez have already helpfully responded to your questions in detail above:

To reiterate the major points:

A Roon subscription allows for one active Roon Server at any given time.

A Roon database is tied to a single Roon account (ie. a single email address). You can’t migrate a database or restore a Backup between two different Roon usernames; you can only do so between two server machines tied to the same account.

If you want to restore a Backup or migrate your database between machines, you simply need to deauthorize one server and authorize the new server for your account.

A Roon account can have multiple Roon subscriptions, allowing for multiple active Roon Servers.

Let us know if we can answer any further questions. Thank you!
