Transferring Roon Playlists from PC to Nucleus One (ref#BUDQVP)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· I have roon installed on my PC but I just received a nucleus one for Christmas. Yay! The roon that's on my PC is not working but has much of my playlists set up on it. How can I transfer the playlists to the Nucleus one? Most if not all of my collection is on an external hard drive that's connected to my PC. The Nucleus is connected to the network and to my external drive and powered on. One more thing I wanted to add, the external drive has my photo archives that I need to access from time to time. Please advise...

You need to backup your old Roon server, then restore that backup to your new Roon server. You also need to connect your music storage to your new Roon server and set it as the watched folder.

Update the graphic drivers on the PC or laptop used to control Roon, i.e., the GUI, and restart the device.

Hello @Alan_Chapin ,

Thank you for reaching Roon support and weclome to our comunity.

Please check for the newest driver available for your graphic card using the following link based on the manufacturer

AMD
NVIDIA
Intel

On Windows, you can do this in Device Manager, by expanding the Display Adapters section, right-clicking your graphics card, and choosing Update Driver Software. If this doesn’t work, make a note of your graphics card model, and visit your manufacturer’s Support page. Often you will find the newest drivers there.

If you’re still having problems and you believe your system is capable of running OpenGL 3.0, please let us know what graphics cards you’re seeing in the Display Adapter section of Device Manager, like this:

Regarding the disk access:

You can put this disk to Nucleus and set up SMB share from it so you can access it from your PC to review your photos.

You can setup an SMB Share from your PC with this disk and connect from nucleus to it. But in this case your PC has to always run.

Or you can just externally plug the DIsk to Nucleus (if your disk has USB format of connection).

You are going to be lucky if your Router supports SMB sharing server and has USB-A/USB-C port for the disk, then you can connect from nucleus to it. This variant is the least compromising one.

But the best scenario would be just to buy a new disk specially for music.

Have a nice day!

Regards.

Thank you all for the assist! I managed to get Roon up and running with your help. Now the only issue I have is finding my audio device. Roon does not show my PC’s speakers as an audio device It does show other devices connected to the router but not the PC that is running Roon? One of them was my front room (TV and stereo system) so I tried using that and input the code that showed up on my TV screen, Roon started to enable but it just continues with nothing happening. When I start Tidal I can hear music on my PC’s speakers. Please advise…

Hello @Alan_Chapin,

Thanks for the update — glad you got Roon running again.

From what you’re describing (PC speakers not showing up as an audio device, while TIDAL plays fine), this looks like the Windows audio output / RAATServer side not initializing correctly on the PC.

A quick note on diagnostics: we attempted to pull the logs from your PC (Roon Remote), but they haven’t shown up on our servers yet, so we don’t currently have enough data to confirm what’s happening on the audio engine side.

As a first step, please:

  1. Fully restart the PC (Start Menu → Power → Restart), then launch Roon again.
  2. After the restart, go to Settings → Audio and check whether “This PC” / “System Output” appears under Connected to this PC and can be enabled.

Once you’ve done that, please reply here and let us know:

  • whether your PC output appears in Settings → Audio, and
  • whether the room/TV endpoint still hangs during enabling.
