Hello,
I have a Nucleus with Roon (perpetual license). I understand that the next Roon update will gradually cause problems for my Nucleus. Therefore, I’m considering purchasing a Nucleus Titan. Two questions:

  1. Will the Nucleus Titan be able to accommodate the SSDs (containing my current music library) that are currently installed in my Nucleus?

  2. How can I preserve all the features of my music library (tags, playlists, etc.) saved on a USB drive?

Actually that’s not the case as far as anyone knows. If you mean RoonOS 3.0, most likely it will add as many problems as RoonOS 2.0 did, which is none. It may have more features that you don’t receive on Nucleus’s RoonOS 1.0, but that’s not the same as problems.

Yes, but there is only one music SSD (not plural). You can just transfer this into the Titan.

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the community! I would like to clarify a couple of points to help you make your decision about the Nucleus Titan.

Regarding the “Problems” with your current Nucleus

First, please rest assured: there is no urgent need to replace your current Nucleus. While we do release updates to RoonOS, our team is committed to maintaining support for all Nucleus models. A future update to RoonOS 3.0 will not “break” your current Nucleus or cause it to stop working. You will continue to receive the latest Roon features, stability improvements, and full software support just as you always have. Upgrading to the Nucleus Titan is a fantastic choice if you want the latest high-performance hardware, but it is not a requirement for continued Roon usage.

Answers to your questions:

1. SSD Transferability: Yes, if you have an internal SSD installed in your current Nucleus, it can be moved to the Nucleus Titan. You simply remove the drive from the current chassis and install it in the Titan’s internal bay. Once moved, the Nucleus Titan will recognize the drive and your music library will be immediately accessible.

2. Preserving Library Features (Tags, Playlists, etc.): Your tags, playlists, and edits are stored in your Roon Database, not on the music drive itself. To preserve these, you must follow the official Moving Roon to a new Server guide:

  • Create a Backup: Before you do anything else, go to your current Nucleus settings, navigate to Backups, and create a fresh backup to an external USB drive.
  • Restore: Once you set up your Nucleus Titan, you will sign in to your Roon account, and the setup wizard will ask if you want to restore a backup. Select the USB drive, and your entire database—including all custom tags and playlists—will be seamlessly transferred to the new unit.

If you decide to proceed with the Titan, it is a significant step up in power and performance, but please know your current Nucleus remains a fully supported, reliable Roon Core!
