Describe the issue

I purchased a pair of Klipsch KD-400 speakers to use on my desk, replacing the larger and more powerful Klipsch R-50PMs. I used to connect the 50s via USB and sometimes Bluetooth. Both setups worked fine.

However, the KD-400 (I appreciate these have been discontinued by Klipsch) can only connect to my Roon MacBook Pro either via Bluetooth or RCA.

The options I have are to enable System Output, Speaker Audio Recorder (virtual) and Klispch USB (the RCA cable connects to the Mac via USB-C). With the Bluetooth setup properly in place, the System Output picks up the connection, plays but the signal path produces only High Quality not lossless or Expanded. The final step in the path is the OS Mixer. Again, it appears that the System Output is using Bluetooth as its output device.

If I enable Speaker Audio Recorder, the name Klipsch is displayed, plays but without sound. The signal path here produces an Expanded output.

The settings in the Mac are correct. Sound settings show the KD-400 connected as the output device, but again, no sound is reproduced.

The settings are correct because I tested them with Tidal. The output device in Tidal is KD-400 and music is reproduced at the Max quality.

The firewall is not interfering with Roon.

Describe your network setup

I connect to the internet via wi-fi, through a Linksys Velop 4500.

Hey @Christian_Coleman-Jo,

Thanks for sharing your report!

I see you’re running the new Sequoia update on your Mac, can you please navigate to macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network , and make sure Roon is allowed. If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then reboot your Mac, and see if the same issue persists.

What happens if you set the KD-400s as your system output endpoints in your Mac settings, and then set Roon to play from your system output?

This sounds like expected behavior when streaming over Bluetooth.

I’d go ahead and set up a hardwire ethernet connection for both Roon and your speakers as a next step as well.

Let us know how the above goes, thank you! :+1:

Benjamin, thanks for your helpful advices. Roon wasn’t included within the apps allowed to use BT and after re-toggling the Local Network permission and rebooting my Mac, problem solved. Thanks again. Christian
