Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS is no more supported

Jussi, following your suggestion to install HQplayer desktop on mac mini 2011 I installed Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS and started downloading HQplayer desktop.
But the website reports that “Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS is no more supported”.
How can I manage it?
Angelo

May I install the embedded version of HQ player on my mac mini 2011 hardware?

A.

Which website?

Both HQPlayer Desktop and HQPlayer Embedded work equally on such Mac Mini. Former should be installed on Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS and latter one on Ubuntu Server 24.04 LTS.

This version of Ubuntu is supported until 2029 with extended security through to 2036.

Maybe you should use 24.04.3
https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop

But running a standard update for a 24.04 installation will update to 24.04.3 or whatever the latest is

Sorry Jussi and each of you. I solved the problem. Now HQ Desktop is installed on Mac Mini with Ubuntu. HQ Client is installed on my iMac and the both are able to communicate. Now my problem is to connect HQ Desktop to a NAS (songs repository).

BTW does anyone know how to remotely control (remote desktop) the ubuntu/macmini from iMac?

It will keep it on 24.04.x unless you specifically ask it to go to one of the short term interim six month support versions like 24.10, 25.04 or 25.10. And yes, it should. be kept up to date with latest 24.04.x version.

Next LTS will be 26.04 (April 2026 release) and it will become upgradeable from 24.04 when 26.04.1 becomes available around June-August time frame. At that point I will move there.

And then after that the next LTS is 28.04 and after that 30.04, 32.04, 34.04 and so on.

Last (hopefully) problems …
HQ Desktop on Ubuntu/macmini does not recognize Amanero audio dac connected via usb. HQ on iMac yes. Amanero audio dac is not in the list of output devices (ALSA, network audio, combo, etc).
Ubuntu/macmin does not see NAS.

PulseAudio may be stealing it (which is a bit like CoreAudio on macOS). You could try to change the default audio output device from desktop settings back to the Mac Mini internal speaker. It should appear under ALSA backend.

You may need to refer to it using it’s IP address if the discovery is not finding it automatically.
Typical format is //server/share where usually server would work with it’s name. But in some cases you may need to use IP instead.

Yes, of course that’s what I meant. 24.04 LTS stays 24.04 LTS, but 24.04 will update to 24.04.1, 24.04.2, 24.04.3, etc.

These aren’t even really separate versions during the normal update cycle, they just mark points in time when Ubuntu will release new installation media for the LTS version.

The short-term support versions are of course completely separate

Jussi I am afraid I do not understand you suggestions.

In the HQ desktop outputs settings the only “Backend” options are:

  • ALSA
  • NetworkAudioAdapter
  • NetworkAudioAdapterIPv6
  • Combo
  • Null output

Nobody seems to work. In iMac installation “Core” option works.

How can I change “the default audio output device from desktop settings back to the Mac Mini internal speaker”?

Selecting ALSA output HQ desktop reports “Failed to open audio device. Please check settings.”

Now NAS audio repository has been connected to HQ Desktop player and library is in progress.

The only remaining problem seems setting the AMANERO output device.
Tried “pulseaudio -k” terminal command in order to select amanero device in output sound settings.

No way. Amanero is still unknown

After hours of internet navigation looking for a solution, problem is well known. A lot of Linux users report “Dummy output” problem that is still unsolved.

And now?

I actually don’t know how to manage it.

Amanero is listed as Device-2. Configuration seems ok. No conflict is reported.

But no way to see other devices
