Hello @jerry1 and welcome to the forum.
The Bricasti is an Audio endpoint (only). What do you use to control your Roon installation (tablet, phone, PC)? Where is your Roon Server running (PC, NAS)? Can you play to other outputs successfully?
This is my first time working with Roon and I am BEYOND LET DOWN so far.
$15 per month?
No email support? No phone support? Just forum threads?
Brian Kahn wrote about Roon last week extensive. I was hopeful that this wouldn’t be a tech-nightmare. So far, it is a non-functional nightmare.
I am using a Bricasti M5 streamer and server (for review) and it is a Roon controlled device.
I downloaded Roon to my Living Room iPad that I use for audio. I have the Roon App installed and still looking for a connection to the unit.
I got the exact IP address for a manual connection today but that has failed.
The Roon App encouraged me to reach out thus this thread…
I don’t think you understand that Roon is a client/server architecture. You have installed the Roon Client onto your iPad - you need to have the Roon Server installed somewhere and for it to be running for the client to talk to it.
I suggest you look at this first…
From the article you shared:
You managed the control and endpoint parts already. Now you just need a server to complete your Roon setup. To get started uncomplicated to evaluate Roon you can do as Brian Kahn and simply running the Roon server software on the family desktop computer (or another computer that you have readily available). The recommended hardware is listed in the following document:
Also take a look at: https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/roon-labs-llc/getting-started which has guides that get you started. To connect your Brcasti streamer to Roon you can follow:

My issue is before this stage.
I can get the Roon App on my iPad to see the Bricasti .
I am stuck at the “Chose Your Roon Server” page on the iPad.
Roon should have found the Bricasti automatically. I also tried manual (as I got my IP address confirmed with my AV installer to be EXTRA SURE). The two aren’t talking although my AV guy can see the Bricasti remotely thus I know it is on the network.
Can you help more with that information?
Thank you for your support!
Jerry
PS: I’ve got the Bricasti manual AND the PDF.
As I said earlier, I don’t think you realise that you must have a Roon Server up and running. Your Bricasti is NOT a Roon Server - it is a Roon Endpoint.
I thought the Bricasti M5 was a Roon Core (meaning server)
Can the iPad play the role of Roon Core?
No, “The M5 is a dedicated DLNA and Roon Ready audio media renderer” (quote from the product page).
A “renderer” means that it receives the digital stream from a server (a DLNA server or a Roon Server) and renders the stream into an analog signal for the next stage in the audio chain.
And an iPad CANNOT play the role of a Roon Server.
Already posted above, but you need to read it.
I am going to talk with Bricasti (a client of mine and friends too) SOON.
QUESTION… can my Macbook Pro on the network run Roon as the core or do I need a dedicated computer for the Bricasti M5?
Macbook is fine for now. It’s just that the Roon server has to be running to play music and Mac laptops by default sleep aggressively to save energy. You can turn that off, but long-term you may want a separate dedicated computer (can be a Mac Mini for instance) that is always available.
I got things up and working.
Thank you!
