Describe the issue

Another update and again i cant access Roon

Describe your network setup

Everytime there is a software update I install it and then I can no longer access my Roon Server. I have have written in twice about this

Just an update. I have written in a few times about this, everytime there is a software update I install it and then I can no longer access the server. I have to reboot but then it keeps defaulting back to the previous iteration

I am not going to do that this time so that you can maybe look at the logs

Hello @David_Pullum,

Thank you for reaching out to Roon support.

I’ve enabled diagnostics on your account so our technical team can gather more insight into the issue. However, it appears that your system isn’t successfully communicating with our servers, even after multiple attempts to trigger diagnostics.

I also tested this on my end and was able to submit a similar report without issues, which suggests that something specific in your environment may be interfering.

To move forward, please follow the steps outlined here to manually collect your Roon logs, and upload them to our Logs Uploader Service. Once done, let us know so we can proceed with our investigation.

Additionally, if possible, connect your ROCK device to a monitor via HDMI and share a screenshot of what you see on the screen. This may help us understand the current system state.

Kind regards,
Vadim

Logs have been sent

Hi @David_Pullum,
Thanks for sending in those logs. I see a few crashes in the log files from today. Let’s try a server refresh to see if that helps resolve things.

  • Stop RoonServer from running in ROCK’s WebUI
  • Navigate to your ROCK’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Restart the RoonServer in the WebUI to generate a new Roon database folder
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Roon Server” and connect to the new database

Let us know how it goes—we’re happy to help if anything comes up!

Hi Daniel

If you view my past posts on this I have done this same procedure 3 times now
Literally every time an update is installed this happens and the response is to do a server refresh

I cant continue to pay for a system that everytime there is an update it crashes and I have to perform a server refresh,

Hi @David_Pullum,

We certainly understand your frustration! This isn’t usual behavior and not something that should happen every time you update.

Based on your admin, it looks like your server didn’t have any issues updating, but your Mac remote running Roon is still running quite an outdated version of Roon. Could you please send over a set of Roon logs from the Mac this time? Here is our our File Uploader.

Do you have any active firewall or third-party security on the Mac itself?

And, do you see this issue no matter the remote device you attempt to connect to your server with after you update?

I have updated all the Mac’s
and sent you a log for the one doing this
( i cant upload a video on this so below is a link)
Basically the interface is flashing

and here we go again…

so the server was updated and i got the flashing screen on everything that I try to access Roon on, phone, mac etc

So then I reboot the server and yet again it defaults back to the older version of the soiftware, and so begins another 4 rounds of updating, flashing screens, not able to play music, reboot server and returns to older version

This happens on every single update

Just updated RoonServer on my Win 10 machine. It now refuses to start.

Is there an easy way to force a previous version to start instead?

Hi @Mani_Sandher

Your post indicates you might require assistance from Roon technical support.

Sorry I got an email with your message and created a separate ticket, please keep this and delete the other, didnt realise someone else had created an issue within my issue

No worries - your other thread has been deleted.

It’s OK, I’ve fixed it. I just deleted the ‘Roon’ folder, downloaded and installed Roon, and everything works fine.

Backups are set for every 4 days, so I would have been able to do a new install and restore, had the above not worked.

Thanks anyway.

Hi @David_Pullum ,

Just to confirm, it reverted back to build 1490, as it did in the past? I’m looking over your latest log set from the ROCK, but there is no indication that the update past 1490 took place. Can you please create a Backup of your database and then try an Operating System reinstall via the Web UI?

Thanks. I have done this but please note I did this last time there was an update and whilst its working perfectly now i will wait for the next update

Question: If I choose to have the server on my Mac, does that Mac need to be constantly on and running for me to play music? I guess it would as my server is constantly on but wondered if it could access whilst the Mac as asleep

Here we go again. I’m really getting fed up with this tbh

Roon cuts out, I cant access it, have to reboot the server and low and behold it defaults back to a previous firmware

I’m starting to wonder whether this is something to do with having a mesh network as well as my main connection

If so then I need some explanation that a dummy can understand as to how to solve this. Someone posted in another one of my threads that it may be getting them confused

Just to reiterate.

My server is connected via ethernet to my router ( network 1)
All Audio also set up on Network 1

I have a google mesh that is Network 2

That shouldn’t be the issue.

Your google nest mesh is just a different wifi ssid not a different network subnet. If it was 2 network ip pools and another NAT you would never be able to access your server at all from your mesh.

Hey @David_Pullumm,

Based on the symptoms you’re experiencing, it may be worth performing a full ROCK reinstall. To do this, you’ll want to start with step #3 from the KB article below:

Let me know if you have any questions along the way! We’ll be on standby for your results. :+1:
