Please try to restart your network setup by unplugging, waiting 30 seconds and then replugging in your networking gear.
· No, the issue remains the same
Please select how you've connected your Roon Server to the internet
· Roon Server is connected by *WiFi*
Have you checked your firewall settings to ensure that Roon is allowed through?
· Roon still won't connect even after checking this aspect
Have you verified that Roon Server is on the same subnet as your Remotes?
· My Remotes and Server are on the same subnet and I still can't connect
Sometimes the issues can be resolved with a reinstall of your Roon Remote app. Let's try to perform a reinstall and see if it helps.
· I've reinstalled the Roon Remote but it did not help
What is the operating system of your Roon Server host machine?
· *Linux Server* (Ubuntu, Fedora, ArcLinux...)
Select any of the following components that are present in your local network setup
· *Mesh networks*
You mentioned a mesh network in your setup. Certain common mesh networks might require slight reconfiguration to support Roon.
· None of the above
Describe the issue
I purchased roon many years ago and have used it on both MacOS and Linux. I recently returned to Arch after many years on MacOS. Just installed the server and am trying to access it. I do not have a firewall running on my Arch install (for now, while I debug this thing).
From my iPhone: - I can't see it on the roon app - The iPhone can see other network devices including the roon server on my old mac just fine.
From my wife's iPhone: - I can't see it on the roon app - The iPhone can see other network devices including the roon server on my old mac just fine.
I installed Roon on Wine on my Linux machine - This sees the roon server just fine! - But when I go to log in I can't because you've changed the login to be a webpage redirect, and that seems to be incompatible with the Wine installation.
I've spent the whole morning trying everything I could find on every webpage I could turn up and nothing. Would greatly appreciate your help.
Describe your network setup
Both my laptop (running roon server on Arch linux) and iPhone are on the same mesh node, both at 5G. No firewalls
Thank you for your post and we’re sorry to hear you’ve been dealing with connectivity problems in your Roon setup.
The first step is to ensure that both iPhones have their network settings configured to play nicely with Roon’s network discovery. If you haven’t already, please try the following in iOS settings:
Settings → WiFi → your network. Ensure that you have Private WiFi Address set to “Fixed”
Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network. Ensure that Roon (and Roon ARC if you use it) are both toggled on for local network access.
Please double-check that your RoonServer is on the same VLAN as your devices - Roon’s device discovery announcements won’t cross VLANs.
In the settings for your mesh network, try toggling multicast forwarding on (if available) and also toggling IGMP snooping off/on.
Please share a screenshot of what you encounter when you login to Roon (without Wine, on the standard ArchLinux).
We’ve requested automatic diagnostics from the ArchLinux RoonServer machine in the meantime, so once those reach our server, we’ll be equipped to more precisely identify the issue. We’ll watch for your response to the questions/suggestions above in the meantime.
Okay, the main problem was that I needed to log in to roon desktop running on Wine in Linux, which was impossible because of the damned web redirect login. Everything I found said to do so with a mobile device, but I can’t get my devices to see my roon server, hence my above post.
But!!! I did a search for this problem more generically (i.e. not specific to roon), and found that if you capture the redirect, you can then (from the terminal) enter:
replace “username” with your account username (i.e. your login and home folder name), and the code string with whatever your browser was trying to redirect to.
Problems solved!! Yay. That only took all day
Next problem: roon can’t see my stereo. But at least it works, and I can play music on my laptop speakers. Baby steps…
Thank you for your reply! I checked all these things and none are the issue. I also completely disabled my firewall with:
$ sudo ufw disable
and no dice. Still can’t see my roon server from my mobile devices, and I can’t see my stereo from my roon server (now that I have the desktop logged in and working in Wine).
I must be doing something knuckleheaded… but I can’t for the life of me figure out why. At least I’m struggling with laptop speaker music now
Look forward to any further suggestions you might have…
When I turn my Roon Server computer (the Arch Linux install in question) WiFi off, and then on again, I briefly see the server from the iOS control point, but not long enough to connect. If I quit the iOS app and reload, I can no longer see the Roon Server. If I turn WiFi off and back on again, the behavior repeats itself.
Same as above when I enter “sudo systemctl restart roonserver.service” at the command line. Briefly appears in the iOS app, but not long enough to connect.
Still can’t see AirPlay or roon endpoint speakers on my network (all these devices are on 192.18.1.XXX subnet).
Can you please connect the monitor to the box hosting roon server and open Roon there and check if it has an IP assigned ?
Can you discover this box inside your local network at all from other devices ?
From that piece of diagnostic data we have received it looks like there are some network issues that are likely coming either from your Arch linux or from network setup.
In general, is there a reason why you have chosen Arch Linux ? Would that be possible for you to switch to windows if you are hosting Roon only or to another more popular Linux distributive - Ubuntu ? That would simplify troubleshooting or would not cause major network problems.
Hi all. Got it working. Was a firewall issue. Not exactly sure why. Disabling firewalld with:
$ sudo systemctl stop firewalld
didn’t help, but:
$ sudo nft flush ruleset
followed by:
$ sudo firewall-cmd reload
fixed it. Honestly, I have no idea why. But it works. Finally…
Also had to do:
$ sudo systemctl disable nftables.service
to keep the problem from reappearing on reboot.
