Describe the issue

I am attempting to add missing codecs to my new rock server. I do not see the server show up in my >network on my windows 11 PC. When I attempt to follow these instructions: "If ROCK does not appear, For PC enter '\\rock\data' in the address bar (not the search box) and press Enter." The login screen states the following: "You can't access this shared folder because your organization's security policies block unauthenticated guest access. These policies help protect your PC for unsafe or malicious devices on the network." I am doing this in my home and on my home network. The ROCK is an Intel Nuc7i5BNK with 128gb SSD and 8GB of ram. It is connected to my network via Ethernet cable that is plugged into my eero basestation. Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

Describe your network setup

Network is an eero mesh system. One base station and two nodes. the Nuc I am using for the server is hardwired to the eero. It was given an IP on the network that I can access via a browser and is recognized by the ROON app on my mobile phone.

Has your Windows 11 PC been upgraded to 24H2?

If so, in this update, Microsoft has disabled access to annonymous SMB shares (shares using guest/guest login and password).

In order to work around this you will have to use the Windows group policy editor to reverse the change.

Instructions for doing this can be found at:

The detailed instructions can be found by scrolling down to the “How to solve the issues” section. You will not be able to perform steps 1 to 5 because they are prompting you to change the settings on the SMB server (which ROCK does not allow you to do). Instead, you need to start at step 6.

@danklar - In the article that @Wade_Oram links to, start at step 6 if you have Windows 11 Pro, or step 8 if you have Windows 11 Home.

@Wade_Oram and @Geoff_Coupe Thank you both for answering and helping me out so quickly!!! I am very new the community. Just started a few months ago running Roon on my PC but quickly realized a dedicated server would be a better option. Your work around was easy to do and worked perfectly. I finished setting up the external music storage and I have been enjoying my new Roon server.
Thank you so much!

Dan
