Woah – your response caused me to go back and try a manual backup once again and – lo and behold – the IP address for the NAS is now listed as a possible backup location, meaning I suppose that the NAS is “already connected.” See screenshot. So putting in the IP address was what did the trick.
Thank you!
Additional question – do I have to create a static IP address for the NAS in order for this to stick? (Something I have no idea how to do.)
Create a new folder like for example DB backup and then select this folder to backup to.

Yes, it worked great! I didn’t have to create a new folder – Roon created its own “RoonBackups” folder in “Music.”
Thank you, everyone, again!
For a better experience, having your music located locally is better. The NAS can be used to backup your media library.

I think that’s what I’m doing. The music is now on a 2TB SSD installed in the NUC (separate from the M.2 SSD that has the core), which I back up manually to the NAS, which is then automatically backed up to the cloud.
I can’t add QNAP’s NAS shared folder here.
QNAP logs said, Roon access without username on first access after setting change, so fail.
Only success adding share folder is using OS sharing component.(MacOS)
Now Roon is unusable on using nas device.
(I new use ROCK for this condition. when before use mac as roon server, connection problem not happen)
I set samba version to 1 on NAS,
connect successfully.
