· I am having trouble logging into my Last.fm account through Roon. My Last.fm account credentials are correct and working fine when logged in directly on their website or app, but the authentication fails inside Roon.
Troubleshooting already performed:
- Verified account credentials independently. - Logged out and attempted to re-authenticate the service within Roon settings. - Restarted the Roon Core and endpoints. - Cleared relevant caches/network states.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

@vadim Vadim, my Last.fm login failed this morning (08:30 Amsterdam time) again. Took the steps when it happened a month or so ago. Disconnected Roon from last.fm, removed the connection on last.fm started up again. Trying to reconnect this time, but not log in! Failed to login to last.fm is the error message. No scrobbles this time. So the connection is lost, but can’t establish a new connection. Username and password are correct (from pwmanager). Can log in in last.fm Could you look into this, please? Something strange is going on.
I restored a backup from halve August, but still get the massage: Failed to login in Last.fm
Very annoying.
ps I didn’t change username or password this time. Out of the blue this message came this morning.
We’ve discussed this with our senior QA and development teams. The team is investigating some possibilities here and, as soon as that investigation is complete, we’ll be sure to follow up ASAP.

Hello @kylekrajnyak
We’ve discussed this with our senior QA and development teams. The team is investigating some possibilities here and, as soon as that investigation is complete, we’ll be sure to follow up ASAP.
You have our apologies for the trouble here, and we’ve greatly appreciated your patience as we continue investigating this tricky issue. We’ll be in touch as soon as we can.
Revisiting this thread since we’ve received numerous other reports in the interim that match your reported symptom.
The Roon team is investigating a backend authorization issue with LastFm that is preventing certain users from syncing their profile within Roon.
We’ll merge your report into the tracking thread so you can receive updates from the team. Thank you for your patience and we’ll reach out as soon as we have more information.
Backstory: I noticed some missing, random songs not scrobbled (I.e. I listened to several albums and two songs from each album didn’t scrobbled while all the other songs did).
Anyway, I disconnected Roon from my Last.fm profile and then disconnected Last.fm in my Roon settings.
Then, I tried to log back into Last.fm through my Roon settings.
However, I keep receiving Failed to Login message when putting in my credentials in Roon. (I confirmed they are accurate by logging out and back into Last.fm several times).
One Note: I did NOT change my Last.fm password. I only commented here, because the other thread I saw on this topic (not able to login to Last.fm) is closed.
Thanks for the detailed write-up. From a fresh Roon Server diagnostic report, we can see there are two separate things going on, so we’ll take them in turn.
The missing scrobbles
Your logs confirm a bug we already have tracked internally, with a fix in hand: a track that’s paused and then resumed doesn’t get scrobbled to Last_fm, even when it goes on to play in full.
The pattern in your logs is unmistakable. Across the week you sent us, every track that was resumed after a pause failed to scrobble, 21 out of 21, while tracks that played straight through scrobbled normally (200 of 207). Roon still records the play in your listening history with the full duration; the submission to Last_fm just never goes out.
One example from August 31st:
16:07:16 now playing: of Montreal - You Are An Airplane
16:07:19 paused at 0:02 of 4:24
16:09:01 resumed
16:14:07 play recorded, 264 seconds — the complete track
...no scrobble submitted
Since you’re using the transport controls on your FiiO K17, you’re running into this more often than most people would, which is why it looked like a couple of random tracks per album rather than anything systematic.
The fix is already in and we’re targeting a September release, though we can’t commit to a firm date just yet. All releases can be tracked via our Software Release notes below:
The login failure
This one we can’t explain from the logs you sent, and we’d like to dig further.
The disconnect itself went through cleanly, your Last_fm token was cleared from your profile on August 31st, and there’s nothing stuck on our end that would block you from reconnecting. But from that point through the end of the logs, there’s no Last_fm activity of any kind. No login attempt ever left your Roon Server.
That means either the attempts happened after these logs were captured, or something is failing before the request goes out. To narrow it down, could you:
Try logging in to http://Last.fm
from Roon Settings once more
Note the date and time of the attempt, along with your timezone
Send us a fresh set of logs
With a timestamp to anchor to, we can see exactly where it’s breaking down.
One last thing, unrelated to either issue: your Roon Server briefly loses internet connectivity every morning around 6:00 AM, Roon, Qobuz and Lastfm all become unreachable at the same moment for a few seconds. That looks like a scheduled reboot on your router or ISP equipment. It isn’t behind anything you’ve reported here, but it’s worth knowing about.
· When I try to connect, I get an error saying it cannot connect. The Last.fm website is working, and scrobbles are coming through from streams. I found information about the player cache and the authorization token; I uninstalled the app and renamed the folder so that the cache folder would be recreated, but it had no effect.I also tried creating a new Last.fm account and changing my password in case there were issues with special characters, but that didn’t work either.
Absolutely amazing! Thank you for all of that info.
First, you are totally correct that I often have to pause and unpause my music for meetings or my dogs or my kids… I’m happy to hear a fix is on the way. So, that mystery is solved!
Second, regarding the 6:00am restart, you are totally correct that I have an automated restart on my router at that time. I work from home, and I found that daily restart keeps my router functioning more consistently and speedily the rest of the time.
Finally, I just tried logging in to Last.fm again at exactly 7:15pm Eastern (9/1). I had/have a concern you are going to say it is something with my network, as I’m not 100% sure how to troubleshoot that, but if you have any suggestions or guidance, I will definitely do whatever is needed!
@benjamin@vadim
Tried to log in at 11:31 Amsterdam Europe time.
Failed again. Could you please look in to this?
It’s nice that you helped Matt, but this is my topic. So please help me. It’s quite annoying.
I read in another topic there were also problems with ListenBrainz in a beta version of Roon. Maybe they are related?
That’s my topic - but I don’t think they are related. The ListenBrainz issue is slightly different - the user token is being lost rather than the userid/password being refused at login to Last.fm. I suspect that my issue is being caused by instability of the ListenBrainz service rather than something in Roon.
