Describe the issue

I migrated succesfully from Nucleus to Mac mini M2 pro. There is only one problem. I connected Mac mini to Arcam AV40 via HDMI and can not configure how the multichannel output would work. I even do not get possibility in roon zone setting to select 5.0 or 5.1 setup. But if I go into MIDI setup on Mac mini, I can select multichannel and even the test sound through all the speakers works. Where is the problem and how can be fixed?

Describe your network setup

Apple router, connected to tp-link multiport switch, Mac mini connected to tp-link multiport switch via ethernet

Hi @Gregor_Pompe,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. Under Zone settings there is a button called Device setup

Click that button to bring up the device setup menu and scroll down the show advanced settings.

Is the option you need there?

No, there is no possibility to chane the channel layout. 2.0 is greyed out and not possible to change.

Hi @Gregor_Pompe,

Can you confirm you have Multichannel selected as the source on the AV40?

Alternatively, if you have the AV40 set as multichannel from the audio/midi settings on the Mac, what happens if you select your Mac as the output within Roon? Are you able to access multichannel settings in this scenario?

To confirm, you’ve selected the ‘Roon Ready’ connection from Roon Settings>Audio, correct?

Thank you for reaching.

  1. I set the AV40 on multichannel source (meaning on HDMI cabel that goes from Mac Mini to AV) and on Roon I set as Zone AV40 HDMI (connected to Roon server). I am not able to chose or even acces multichannel settings.
  2. I tried to select Mac Mini as output (in audio/midi settings I set the multichannel output and I tested it all tha channels through that interface and it works), but again I am not able to chose or even acces multichannel settings.
  3. I do not understand your last idea of selecting Roon Ready connection. As far sa I understand Arcam AV40 is Roon Ready but this connection can not outputmultichannel. I select Arcam AV40 as “connected to Roon server” device (it is connected vie HDMI cabel).

Hi @Gregor_Pompe ,

There have been a few reports of issues with Mac and multichannel HDMI output in the past. If I recall correctly, this behavior seemed to have impacted more than just Roon. Are you able to properly output multichannel content on HMDI via another app, such as TIDAL app?

I tried Dolby Atmos via Tidal (although Tidal is totally unclear on which devices you can use multichannel outout). I set audio/midi app on multichannel nad I am gettin as with Roon only 2 channels. So probably MAc mini is the culprit. I can run multichannel through Apple TV, so my AVR is ok. So I use now Eversolo DMP A6 with HDMI out for multichannel, but of course not in connection with Roon. This is a shame. Should I report it to Apple?

Hey @Gregor_Pompe,

There isn’t much we’re able to do in these situations unfortunately, and we agree that getting in touch with Apple directly in this case would be the best next step.

Sorry there isn’t more we can do for you. :-1:
