Unable to connect new Windows 11 laptop to Nucleus One SSD storage (ref#F20VN5)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

Tell us what's going on

· I installed a new ssd in my nucleus one to hold my music library. I used my "old" laptop with windows 10 to browse to the nucleus one status page, format the ssd and used "set up a new network location" to the data\storage\InternalStorage folder share to copy the music to the ssd. I test copied one flac file to the new ssd.
I then purchased a "new" laptop with windows 11 home version to replace my "old" laptop. I can access the Nucleus one status page on the new laptop but have not been able to set up a share link to the internal storage. As a result I have no ability to manage the music library on the ssd. I can't figure out how to use windows explorer to set up a link to the ssd on Nucleus One.

Hi @Blake_Murphy,

Thank you for your post. This is a common snag when you’re using the RoonOS unit to host your files via network share with a Windows 11 machine. Windows 11 has guest fallback disabled by default - this will render a third-party NAS like the Nucleus invisible.

Please try the steps listed in this article and let us know if it helps:

We’ll watch for your response. Thank you!

Success. I applied the two suggested fixes in Windows Powershell point 8 to disable SMB signing requirement and to disable guest fallback and the Roon Nucleus one folders now show up.

I have started to copy my music library to the SSD. I could not have made the fix without your support from this ticket and I suspect many others will experience similar issues as they transition from Win10 to 11.

My suggestion is that this issue be highlighted in the Nucleus one user manual or technical data to help technically limited people like myself to have the internal SSD appear on their PC’s.

Thanks for your help.

It already is…

Hey @Blake_Murphy !

Thanks for confirming the solution has worked for you.

As per mention of @Geoff_Coupe this moment is already noted in the help center.

Regards.

Hi @Blake_Murphy,

Your suggestion to make this information more conspicuous is completely valid. It’s unfortunate that so many Windows/RoonOS users have to dig for a solution.

Here’s what we’re doing in the meantime:

  1. We’re to streamline and audit our documentation to make high-traffic, precise solutions more visible in Knowledge Base

  2. Behind the scenes, development is updating SMB in RoonOS, which should resolve this guest fallback problems with Windows 11 in the long term.

Thanks again for your post and we’re glad to hear the issue is resolved.
