Tell us about your home network

· ubiquiti. no vpn.

This is because of the enhanced security policy introduced in Windows 11 about 18 months ago.

There is an article on how to fix it in the Roonhelp centre:

Or you can go to the Microsoft original source:

In the Microsoft article, the first 5 steps of the remedial action don’t apply because they are all about changing your server to eliminate the need for guest access which is not currently possible with RoonOS. Thus you need to start at step 6 for Windows 11 Pro and step 8 for Windows 11 home.

thanks. this worked. is it possible to setup a proper username / password on the ROCK instead of weakening the security policies on Windows?

Not yet. I believe it has been stated that Roon are working on a solution but nothing has appeared yet and it is unlikely that Roon will give any updates before their solution becomes available - at least in early access.

The security enhancement that Microsoft introduced were more for business security. It arguable as to whether or not they are appropriate for home users.

In any event, enabling guest access using this method only takes you back to the situation as it was before Windows 11 24H2. If you only use network shares from the local network (which would be the case for most home users) it has no real security implications since, presumably, you trust the content of your own file servers.
