Describe your network setup

Ethernet

It’s unclear where your Roon Server is located right now.
Mac, PC, Nuc, Nucleus etc.
Find your Roon OS is not going to find your Server if it’s on a PC or Mac for example.
Can you see your Roon Server on the network at all, say from file explorer, that would be my first avenue.

I figured one of my internal drive where my Roon server is corrupted. Can you help me in the process/ procedure to create a new server thank you

Hello @Ronaldo_Cristobal,

Thank you for the update.

At this point, it’s still not fully clear where your Roon Server was running — on a Nucleus, a ROCK-installed NUC, or on a Mac/Windows/Linux.
Each of these setups has a different recovery procedure, so we want to make sure we’re guiding you correctly.

If your Roon Server was running on a Nucleus or a ROCK/NUC device

Here is the correct step-by-step process to replace a failed internal SSD and reinstall the operating system:

  1. Install a new SSD
You’ll need a new M.2 SATA SSD for the system drive.
Here’s an example of a compatible option:
Amazon.com: Transcend 128GB M.2 2280 SSD, Up to 1,500 MB/s, Compatible w/Ultrabook Laptop PC Desktop, PCIe NVMe Gen3x4 SSD, 3D TLC NAND Flash Internal Solid State Drive, LDPC Error Correction ECC, SLC Cache : Electronics
  2. Physical replacement instructions
This video shows how to replace the SSD:
    3.Nucleus SSD replacement.mp4*
    (Nucleus SSD replacement.mp4)
  3. Prepare a USB installer and reinstall ROCK
Follow these steps starting from Step 3 in our ROCK install guide:
    https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/rock-install-guide#4_Writing_to_a_USB_flash_drive_from_a_second_computer_not_the_NUC:~:text=3.%20Download-,To%20install%20ROCK,-%2C%20you%20will%20first

You will flash the ROCK OS image onto a USB stick, boot the Nucleus/NUC from it, and let it format and install the system onto the new SSD.

If your Roon Server was running on a Mac, Windows PC, or Linux machine

Then the process is different, and you don’t need to reinstall ROCK or replace hardware.
In that case, please let us know:

  • what device the server was running on
  • whether you still have a backup

…and we’ll guide you through the correct steps.

We’re here to help — just let us know which device your Roon Server was running on, and we’ll take you through the exact procedure.

My Roon Sever was running before on Windows PC . thanks

Hello @Ronaldo_Cristobal,

Thank you for the clarification — if your Roon Server was running on a Windows PC, you do not need to replace any hardware. You can simply reinstall Roon Server on Windows.

Below are the step-by-step instructions to completely remove and reinstall Roon Server on Windows.

1. Stop Roon and Roon Server

  1. Close the Roon app.
  2. Right-click the Windows taskbar → Task Manager.
  3. If you see Roon.exe or RoonServer.exe running → select them → End Task.

2. Uninstall Roon and Roon Server

  1. Open Control PanelPrograms and Features.
  2. Uninstall the Roon

This removes the software but preserves your database.

3. Remove the old Roon database

Since you mentioned that the drive where Roon was stored was corrupted, it’s best to start with a clean database.

  1. Press Windows + R → type:
%localappdata%
  1. Find and delete the folder named:
  • Roon
  • RoonServer
  • RAATServer
  • RoonGoer

If you have a Roon backup on another disk/NAS/USB, keep it safe — do NOT delete your backup folder.

4. Download the latest Roon Server installer

Use this link:

Download Roon - Mac, Windows, iOS & Android Apps | Free Download

Download Roon Server for Windows.

5. Install Roon Server

Run the installer and follow the prompts.

After installation, open the Roon Remote (on your PC or phone/tablet), and it should find the new server.

6. Restore your backup (optional)

If you have a Roon backup:

  1. Open Roon Remote
  2. Connect to the new Server
  3. Choose Restore a Backup
  4. Point to your backup location (USB/NAS/local folder)

This will restore your library, playlists, edits, settings, etc.

If you don’t have a backup

You can start fresh — Roon will create a new empty database automatically.

I followed exactly the procedure but after completing the installation and running the ROON REMOTE on PC, it gives this looping icon "looking gfor your Roon server " like eternity. What am i missing? Im not a computer savvy.

Good day @Ronaldo_Cristobal !

If you want to run Roon Server on the PC which you have sent a screenshot from please just select an option “Use this PC” as it’s shown on your screenshot.

Regards.

Yes I select use this PC to setup your Roon Server but for 3 to 4 hrs is not doing anything, all I got is the image below setting it up.

Hello @Ronaldo_Cristobal

Thank you for the update.

From the screenshot attached, it seems that Roon is still trying to load the database. Would you kindly confirm that you have removed all Roon-related folders under the folder :

%localappdata%

I have followed exactly as the forum advised. I event went to the extent of verifying that all Roon related programs are cleared by following these steps:
Step 1 — Uninstall current Roon

Open Control Panel → Programs and Features

Find Roon → Uninstall

Step 2 — Delete leftover folders

After uninstall, open File Explorer and paste these paths into the address bar one by one. Delete the folders if they exist:

%localappdata%\Roon
%localappdata%\RoonServer
%localappdata%\RoonAppliance
%localappdata%\RAATServer

This ensures no old/corrupted files remain.

Step 3 — Restart your PC

This clears any locked files or services.

Step 4 — Install Roon Server correctly

Run the Roon Windows installerI have downloaded.

I am stucked , please continue to help. Is it a registry problem? I can’t set-up nor search my Roon server in my pC.

Hi @Ronaldo_Cristobal,

Thanks for the updates! To confirm, did you temporarily disable your windows firewall when you initially selected ‘use this PC’ when attempting to launch Roon Server?

If not, I’d try that next. Temporarily disable Windows Defender, and attempt to select ‘Use this PC’ again and see if you’re able to launch Roon Server.

Thank you! :raising_hands:

yes, i tried several times and no help. I am getting this error in the .Net Runtime. Might be related to this :

Hello,

Thank you for sharing the Event Viewer details — this gives us a clear indication of what is happening.

The crash log shows the following error coming from RoonAppliance.exe:

System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.
System.Number.ThrowOverflowOrFormatException
Soolos.Client.ApplicationCommon.CheckOS()

This means that Roon is receiving system information from Windows in a format it cannot parse. We typically see this when Windows is using non-standard regional or numeric formats (for example, custom decimal separators or modified locale settings), which causes .NET to return values in an unexpected format.

To resolve this, please check the following:

  1. Region and Language Format

Go to:

Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region

Please temporarily set the Regional Format to:

English (United States)
or
English (United Kingdom)

Then restart your machine.

  1. Numeric Format Settings

Open:

Control Panel → Region → Additional settings

Ensure the following values are set:

  • Decimal symbol: .
  • Digit grouping symbol: ,

If these symbols were reversed or customized, RoonAppliance may fail to start with the exact error shown in your log.

  1. Check .NET Runtime

Roon uses .NET 6, and Windows should have this properly installed.

You can verify this in PowerShell:

dotnet --list-runtimes

You should see:

Microsoft.NETCore.App 6.0.36

If it’s missing or corrupted, reinstalling the .NET 6 Desktop Runtime will correct it.

Please try the steps above and let us know the results.
Once we have confirmation, we can guide you further if needed.

Thank you for the information provided. I executed exactly the procedure as specified. I am still getting .NET Runtime eror. see
snippets below:

Thanks

It is working now after the procedure provided but It worked when I started to turn off Windows Firewall Defender. Thanks for all the help.
