Describe the issue

Can't connect to Roon Server

Describe your network setup

Roon Server running on a Mac M1 Mini connected by Ethernet to a Linksys router. Remote Roon connected by WiFi. Both IP addresses reserved.

Hello @Mark_Stansbury,

Thank you for reaching Roon support, nice to see you on our community again!

macOS Sequoia (version 15), has tighter (and more obfuscated) network security settings than preceding MacOS versions.

Can you please navigate to macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network, and make sure Roon is allowed.

If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then reboot your Mac, and see if the same issue persists.

Yes, I’ve done that several times, all to no avail. I should say that this occurred after I updated to the latest Beta of 15.5 The Local Network pane also shows two instances of Roon Server that are linked (turning one off also turns the other one off, and vice versa)

Hello @Mark_Stansbury,

Thank you for the update.

Could you kindly share a screenshot of the settings where you see multiple “Roon Server” instances listed?

In the meantime, please try the following steps:

  1. Close Roon from the taskbar by right-clicking the icon and selecting “Quit.”
  2. Restart the application from Finder (or Applications folder, depending on your setup).
  3. If the issue persists, open the Activity Monitor and ensure all Roon-related processes are closed. Then try launching Roon again.

Let me know how things go after these steps—we’re here to help.

Here’s the screenshot. When quit the server and start the Roon app, I’m asked to sign in and then told that I’m already signed in. When Roon and Roon Server were quit there were no Roon processes in Activity Monitor. FWIW, on iOS Roon ARC tells me that the server is online, but there’s an issue that the Roon App will help with; the Roon App just says ‘Waiting for server’

Hey @Mark_Stansbury,

Thanks for the update! Let’s see if refreshing your Roon Server databse may help here:

Let’s try a fresh database and see if your issues persist:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

Here is the process outlined from a macOS machine:
roonoldmac

Let me know if this helps!

Unfortunately, none of those suggestions helped. I was able to get back up and running by signing out everywhere I could and signing back in again. That seems to have solved all my problems.

Hello @Mark_Stansbury,

Thank you for the update we are happy to hear that you are able to solve the issue.

Enjoy your music!
