· I migrated to a new server, new computer is a M2 MacBook. Everything works fine on the MacBook playing music via my usb to dac but I can’t connect to server using ipad or iphone.
System Details:
• Core/Server: M2 MacBook Air running macOS Tahoe.
• Audio Path: MacBook → USB → PS Audio DAC.
• Remotes: iPad and iPhone (stuck on “Searching”).
• Network: Both devices on the same Wi-Fi network.
Symptoms:
1. Music plays perfectly from the MacBook to the DAC, but no remote device can “see” the server.
2. The iPad occasionally shows a picture of the MacBook but hangs on “Searching.”
3. In System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network, there are two entries for RoonAppliance.
4. Roon Server does not appear as a separate toggle in the Local Network list, just roon.
5. Attempting to log out and back into the Roon app on the MacBook resulted in a “Login Hang.”
Steps Already Taken (Unsuccessful):
• Network Toggles: Cycled “Local Network” permissions for Roon and RoonAppliance (Off → Reboot → On).
• App Reset: Deleted and reinstalled the Roon app on the iPad.
This sounds like the MacBook is serving music locally, but the Roon Remote side is not completing discovery on your network.
One thing stands out right away: T-Mobile home internet mesh setups can be tricky with device discovery, especially when the Roon Server is running on macOS and the remotes are on Wi-Fi. To narrow this down, I’d like to check two things:
Is the MacBook connected to the mesh by Wi-Fi or by Ethernet?
Do the iPad and iPhone sit on the same mesh node and same band as the MacBook, or can they roam between nodes?
In the meantime, please try this on the MacBook running Roon Server: quit Roon and RoonServer, then reopen RoonServer first and wait a minute before opening the iPad or iPhone app again. If it still hangs on searching, the next most useful test is to connect the MacBook directly to the T-Mobile gateway, bypassing the mesh if possible, just to see whether discovery starts working.
If you can also share the exact model of the T-Mobile gateway and mesh gear, that will help us tell whether this is a network isolation issue or something specific to the MacBook permissions side.
With that, could you bring your Server back online? We’ll enable diagnostic mode for your Roon Server to take a closer look. Thank you!
· I want to download 1.8 to my iMac so I can use my iPad to connect to my Mac roon server. Version 2.0 no longer works even after reinstalling it on another computer (MacBook Air M2). I have been not able to use roon with my iPad for 2 days now.
Tell us about your home network
· wifi has not changed, still using same wifi . T-mobile
still does not work. only difference is not my internet its that roon 2.0 had a update that all of a sudden won’t work. I would love to go back to version 1.8 , never had a problem. Anyway to go back to 1.8
Thanks for the reply! Downloading Roon 1.8 is unfortunately no longer an option. That said, I’m confident we can get you up and running with Roon 2.0 - have you gotten a chance to run through my prior reply?
