If I could send you screenshots, you would be able to quickly assess the situation.
Fatal error caused by Roon, system crashes, Roon closes unexpectedly, crashes Oh oh, something is wrong in a pop-up from Roon ...
In the Roon Info section, the Roon Server field says that the latest version is already in use, but Roon Remote Control says “Waiting for Roon Server.”
The Roon Server status is indicated as: Roon Server Status: Running.
I use Roon Remote and Roon Server on a MacBook Pro with macOS 15.7.3 - and the computer is used exclusively for music playback and was extremely stable “until Roon came along.”
I am desperate because I have been unable to solve the problem despite hours of trying and searching the internet. Perhaps you have an idea (or hopefully, you certainly do)?
My guess is that I am not staying “stable” connected to your server or that the Roon Server is not consistently connected or recognized. This is because the crashes do not occur when playing music, but when “reading hard drive, indexing” and “waiting for your Roon Server” (which is installed on the same computer as mine) is regularly displayed, and then problems occur.
Very strange - can you please help me? I have been trying for two months and am annoyed.
Clicked on the small green spinning circle, "Add music to music library… identified and the blue bar starts slowly and after a few minutes, new window:
“There was a problem loading your library.”
Then I am asked to restore a backup, even though I “only” wanted to import the data.
I created the current log afterwards and sent it to you.
Thanks for confirming Roon is running. We were able to retrieve diagnostics and have been able to locate the issue, it looks like your Roon Server has run out of space:
Critical: scx: System.IO.IOException: No space left on device : '/Users/snej/Library/RoonServer/Database/
I would clear out some space on the device. Do you have any backups of your Roon database made? It may be safer to restore from a backup to avoid issues down the line.
Indeed, I was able to free up a lot of storage space by deleting APFS snapshots and music data that had been stored locally up to that point.
I will test the result and can well imagine that it has certainly been useful and your answer helpful, but I fear that there is another problem: When I first wanted to start a backup today, Roon told me in the “Settings - Info - Roon Remote Control” section, “Waiting for Roon Server” (instead of the expected message: The latest version is already in use, as is the case with the box directly below it (Roon Server This Mac), and at the same time the top line shows that the Roon Server status is “running.” The backup could NOT be started, and the next screen informed me that "Waiting for your Roon Server, does not appear to be running. Starting Roon Server did not work, but as already mentioned, the top line of the monitor shows the server status as “running.”
Hopefully you have an idea what I can do - so that the “waiting for the Roon server” comes to an end.
If you could please send me a link, I will send you a screenshot of what I described above.
The latest diagnostics show an active Roon Server instance associated with your account since you posted. Were you able to resolve the connectivity issue sufficiently to run the Backup? Have you encountered any more crashes with Roon after freeing up disk space?
Freeing up disk space was the perfect solution to the system crashes. Thank you very much for this tip!!!
However, “waiting for Roon Server” is omnipresent - and when the “waiting time has expired,” I get this screenshot I just took with the message “Oh oh, something’s wrong…” - and I’m supposed to choose another server that I have on one machine and not on a second one. I am sending the two screenshots with this message.
When I log in with my Roon account, I get the message “The latest version is already in use” for a short time, as expected and desired. But shortly after that, the display changes to “Waiting for Roon Server,” and it stays that way.
Have you tried the option of chosing another server? If anything is listed, it is the same server. It is possible that your network has assigned it a new address.
A few minutes ago, I did the following: under General → ROON SERVER - This device (Mac) - I selected Disconnect in the top right corner.
New screen: Connect to your Roon Server, a device is displayed here and it is described with a green dot and the text “Ready.” I took a photo of the result and then selected “Connect.”
This worked for about a minute, and the info said “This device (Mac) is already using the latest version.” About a minute later, this display changed back to “Waiting for Roon Server.” Please see the photo in the attachment.
According to the display in the top line, the Roon Server status is supposedly “Running.”
I don’t have any other server besides this MacPro.
I disabled the firewall in System Preferences → Network.
I also noticed that “Waiting for Roon Server” also appears as a pop-up when it says that the latest version is being used. This does not seem to be related to the constant search for Roon Server.
“It is possible that your network has assigned it a new address.” Where can I find out and see this?
After importing a larger hard drive into the Roon system last night, Roon couldn’t find its Roon server today, and I’ve restarted the system several times because I can’t even get to the Roon start screen. I’m slowly starting to despair. The monitor remains pretty much “white” except for the Roon icon. See photo.
And that’s without me having connected an HD at all, which might speed up the program startup. Is it possible that Roon takes hours to start up?
I don’t want to lose the data from the albums I’ve imported so far, but since I couldn’t finish, I don’t have a backup yet.
Addendum 2: “Started” is of course also available in the Roon Server status. But even when it is “Running,” the device displays “Waiting for your Roon Server,” and the blue line runs counterclockwise. I just noticed that the status is also displayed as “Not responding” in the top line. This changes quickly and often.
What can be done about this, because listening to some music would be the goal at the end of the installation.
Roon no longer starts, and still won’t start without renaming the previous library. I renamed Roon and the database to “_old,” and the newly created one now works.
The “old” RoonServer database is 192 GB in size - is that a problem? Roon tried to match with the server all night, but to no avail.
In Apple Settings, System Settings, Privacy & Security, Local Network, both Roon and RoonServer appear TWICE. And BOTH entries point to the identical entry in “Finder.” Could this be a problem?
I would appreciate your assistance, as I don’t want to run the audio analysis again, which is not yet complete and therefore does not exist as a backup, only to end up in the same situation again.
