Describe the issue

macOS 10.15 or later to download

Describe your network setup

Can't use this version of the application "Roon" with this version of macOS, you have macOS 10.15 or later

Roon 2.0 has always required at least macOS 10.15.

It would be possible to use the legacy version 1.8 instead, but this means that you have to use this on all of your devices and it’s no longer supported with updates

Hi @charlesyost,
Thanks for reaching out to us to ask about this. Our records show that you currently have an active RoonServer running. Just checking in—has your question been resolved, or is there anything else we can help with? Let us know!

I’m still waiting for Room application that is compatible with my 20 year old MacBook Pro ? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Charles

I posted the options in the first reply,

Hi @charlesyost,
If you’re open to exploring third-party solutions, some of our users have had success using OpenCore Legacy Patcher to run Roon on unsupported macOS hardware.

That said, please note that this is not something we officially support or test, so we can’t guarantee stability or performance. Proceeding with tools like this is at your own discretion, and we recommend reviewing the documentation carefully before making any changes to your system.

Let us know if you have any questions—we’re happy to help however we can!

Thank you so very much for the information! I paid $700.00 dollars for a lifetime subscription and unable to use it on my vintage MacBook Pro, I can’t afford to spend a few thousand dollars on a new MacBook Pro just to listen to ROON, I’m surprised that ROON doesn’t offer a compatible version for older apple computers or at least a refund??

You need to get some realistic perspective. A true 20 year old MacBook Pro has at best an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2 GB RAM. It is not appropriate for running Roon — or most any current software for that matter.

You don’t need a new MacBook Pro, a mac mini would do just fine. I see a refurbed Mac Mini M1 with 16 gb on Amazon for about $349. There are lots of computers that are much less than a new MacBook Pro that will do the job.

Theres always a Linux distro that could work?

They do offer an older Roon version, as I wrote. However, like @WiWavelength wrote, a 20 years old Macbook is very old and slow even for a 5 year old Roon version.

They do offer a free trial and a monthly subscription before buying lifetime…

And this is the first time you mentioned that you want a refund. Maybe @daniel can refer you to Roon’s accounts team.

Hi @charlesyost,
I’ve asked our accounts team to get in touch with you directly regarding your refund request. They’ll follow up with you via private message shortly to assist further. Let us know if there’s anything else we can help with in the meantime!
