Unable to enable Audio Devices on Mac with security exception error (ref#YVP9S9)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· I am unable to enable Audio Devices attached to my Mac. Anything on the network, including Squeezebox emulating devices and the Mac itself via Airplay2 are working fine. I am on 2.60 (Build 1629) of the Mac App and 2.59 (Build 1625) of the Server Optimised Core Kit. Mac OS is on Tahoe 26.3. I have seen error MacOS error: -25294 in the system log on multiple occasions, I believe this is a security exception.

Tell us about your home network

· Router is Netgear Orbi with multiple satellites. I use Tailscale for VPN but as the issue relates to locally attached devices I don't believe any of these are at issue. I cannot say when the issue appeared, I have been working on other things and have only just noticed the problem.

Hi @starlir

Thank you for reaching out. After reviewing your report, we’ve noticed a critical mismatch in your current configuration that is likely triggering the -25294 security error and preventing your local audio devices from enabling.

Currently, your setup is “out of sync” regarding both versions and development branches:

  • Roon Server (ROCK): 2.59 (build 1625) earlyaccess

  • Roon Mac App: 2.60 (build 1629) production

Running a client on the Early Access (EA) branch—especially on a new OS like macOS Tahoe—while your Core is on the stable Production branch often leads to OS-level permission conflicts and authentication failures for locally attached hardware.

To resolve this, please follow these steps:

  1. Switch back to the Production branch: We strongly recommend moving your ROCK from Early Access back to the Production (stable) branch. Having your Server and Remote on the same branch is a requirement for stable hardware communication.

  2. Update your ROCK: Ensure your Roon Optimized Core Kit is updated to the latest available version via Settings > About.

  3. Reset Permissions: Once you are back on the stable version, macOS may prompt you again for network accessibility. Please ensure all requested permissions are granted in your Mac’s Security & Privacy settings.

Please let us know if the error persists once both your Server and Mac Remote are synchronized on the latest stable Production build.

Thanks for this but the published instructions for downgrade do not work. I have copied the instruction file to the data/reinstall directory but the ROCK System status page does not have a reinstall option for the Roon Server Software and it remains at build 1625.

As I was unable to downgrade ROCK I have installed the Early Access client on my Mac, taking it to Version 2.59 Build 1625 early access and this resolves the issue. I can now enable and use my Mac attached devices.

The instructions don’t say „reinstall option for the Roon Server Software, they say the Reinstall button:

And this should be here - it reinstalls ROCK completely, OS and server:
