Unable to Identify Rega Saturn DAC for Nucleus USB Connection (ref#U5YV4K)

I tried shifting to the Roon Server zone connected to my Saturn with same radio music stream. So far nothing coming through but I am seeing the up and down flow indicator showing that music is being streamed.

Hi again!

Excellent. You’ve got a similar setup to myself as well then, except I have a Klipsch speaker system connected to my PC rather than a Mac. I had to do a tiny bit of tinkering with settings to get mine to work but it was a one time thing and it sounds like yours just worked so that’s good.

You can see a list of all your zones at the bottom right of the Roon UI, over where the volume icon is. You can also rename things there, and change the icons used. For example, “Kitchen” with the frying pan icon on my setup is an old Sonos Play device.

Okay, now for the next part.

When you say shifted to the Roon Server zone connected to your Saturn… what are you now trying to achieve here?

What does your setup with the Saturn look like? Connected to a hifi amplifier unit?

Hi James, I will clarify my setup. In my living room where my audiophile stereo system lives, I have a Linn LP-12 turntable, Plinius 9100 integrated amp and my Saturn R CD deck, Vienna Acoustic Beethoven floor standing speakers.

My Roon is connected as we discussed with USB to the Saturn R USB port. This is zone called Roon Server. I’m seeing both rippling flow indicator on Room server go up and down indicating that music is actually flowing to device and I’m also seeing the lights on the back of the Saturn lit up.

However, when i set my Plinius to the CD, there is no sound yet. So it appears some tweaking is still needed in the parameters with Roon and Saturn. Not sure the changes needed but hopefully some people here will have some suggestions.

In my other zone, called External Headphones, my Mac is connected to small Klipsch speakers and this one is working fine with a Radio station being streamed.

Hope this helps to clarify my set up. My goal is now to get the Roon and Saturn working with music.

Right. Good. I don’t think there should be any tweaking with the Roon settings so it should be about getting the Saturn set up properly.

Do you have the Saturn switched over to the DAC rather than the CD player? You can do that via the CD/DAC button at the very top of the Solaris remote control I assume you’re using.

That should then switch the Saturn’s front display over. You’ll then need to use the top Input button (the other side of the remote control to the Filter up/down button) until you start to hear music streaming through the DAC. Probably best to turn the volume down very low before doing this.

You should never need to adjust the Input again after that, and you can switch back to CD again when you want to listen to physical discs.

I think that’s all you should need?

Wow i heard this was possible but not how to do this until now. Thank you! Is there a way to make this switch on the Saturn itself or only via the remote? I would hope there is a way to do it directly on the Saturn.

It is working!! So excited. Listening to my favorite classical station with my fantastic DAC. All this time i had no idea that the remote selected the DAC input. Amazing.

Now the next thing i want to learn is how to access and save music to my 4 TB internal drive in Nucleus. All ideas welcome

Excellent! I’m really glad I could help. I know the initial setup seems a bit fiddly but it’s because you’ve got a Nucleus and Roon works a little differently is all.

Erm… no you can’t get it to turn on the Saturn by itself or change it directly on the Saturn. That’s Rega for you… only putting super-essential controls on the unit and having the rest on the remote.

That’s also what initially tripped me up: switching over to the DAC using the CD/DAC button and not hearing anything… then later realising I needed to use the DAC’s dedicated Input button on the remote to switch to the right thing!

So yes, you’ll need to switch between CD/DAC via the remote manually I’m afraid, but you get used to it.

In terms of accessing your Nucleus’ internal storage device… using Windows Explorer is the easiest way I find. But it does have a drag-and-drop function.

One more question. What app can i install on my ipad that will allow me to control the Roon app in my living room?

The Roon Remote app

What @Suedkiez said!

You can also install it on your iPhone if you have one. You need to be invested in the Mac world so I imagine so.

And also don’t forget about Roon ARC!
