my husband has passed, I know very little about Roon. I can listen to all of our music etc. I can listen to live radio but for some reason no BBC Radio station. please help
I’m very sorry. Please accept our condolences. We can certainly assist with restoring BBC Radio playback.
We have requested diagnostic logging from the affect RoonServer machine and can see errors while attempting to play BBC Radio Stations.
BBC uses a particular format for live radio streaming that can be more sensitive to network interruptions or bandwidth problems with Roon. We see in logs that the the audio stream from BBC Radio is failing to reach Roon when you request it to play.
As a first question, do these stations ever play successfully (and then stop playing), or are they failing to play at all? The distinction will help us more quickly diagnose the issue.
It sounds like the latter - these stations never play to the Naim Zone you’ve listed. The following troubleshooting steps should help resolve the issue, and we’re happy to elaborate or simplify as we proceed.
First, within Roon, try playing these radio stations on a different Zone by clicking on the picture of the Naim device (or other speaker icon) in the bottom right corner.
Try to play to the “System Output” or “Speakers” Zone of the computer/phone you are using to control Roon. Do the BBC radio stations play in this case? If so, then you might not have enough network speed or bandwidth to download the audio stream from BBC and send it to your devices/endpoints at the same time. You might try to pause any other non-Roon software that is using the network heavily.
If that doesn’t help, then please check if there is any anti-virus or firewall software that is installed on the machines with which you are using Roon. If so, there should be a “safelist” or similar where you can add programs that are allowed to access the network. Make sure RoonServer is on this list.
Please let us know if this helps. We will continue to look through diagnostics in the meantime and look for your response. Thank you.
Hi Connor
Thanks for replying to my query.
The BBC stations none of them load. They try but then an error message appears.
I am absolutely rubbish at this tech stuff. This was my husbands area of expertise!
Everything else works ie other stations and all the music in the library.
I will try the things you have suggested. Maybe my daughters will be able to help.
Thanks for the suggestions
HI Connor
My zones are grouped and i am reluctant to un group them as before we have found it quite difficult to get them back.
As to the anti virus i havent a clue!
Many thanks
Karen
That’s totally understandable! You shouldn’t have to ungroup anything, luckily!
If you navigate to Roon Settings>Audio, you should see an option for the ‘system output’ of your local remote device.
You can click ‘Enable’ and then click your speaker/zone icon on the bottom right-hand corner of your screen, which will pop up a list of your zones - here is where you can select your ‘system output’ zone for testing purposes. Here’s a screencast display of this process:
You can then select BBC and begin playback as normal.
Let us know if you run into the same issues after trying the above, thanks Karen!
