I've lost the ability to log on to Roon. When I attempt to do so I get message: "waiting for your roon server." I downloaded most recent mac Roon application, which is a file dated Sept. 15, 2024 (seems a bit old?) My preference would be for someone trustworthy to log on to my computer remotely and help me figure out what's going on.
Describe your network setup
Standard Verizon FIOS router - this has not changed
Could you please let us know where your Roon Server is hosted — for example, is it running on your Mac, a NAS, Nucleus, or another computer on your network?
Also, when you see the message “Waiting for your Roon Server”, please click on “Select a different Roon Server” and let us know what appears in that list. This will help us understand whether the server is being detected on your network or not.
Once we have this information, we’ll guide you through the next steps.
OK, first of all I was able to download the Sept. 17 2025 build of Roon. Unsure what was preventing that before, but I have that version on my desktop.
Second, yes, the Roon Server is hosted on my Macbook Air. Has been since I started using Roon a couple years ago. Here is a screen shot of what I see when I click on “Select a different Roon Server.”
. In case you can’t see that, there are two options:
Find my Rune OS device, or
Set up a server on this Mac.
Thanks for sharing that screenshot. Roon isn’t able to detect a latent RoonServer instance on the same machine, which might mean two things:
Roon/RoonServer don’t have permission to access the local network via MacOS’s network interface. This is common if you’re running MacOS Sequoia prior to 15.6.1; you can check by navigating to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local network and toggling on access for Roon. Restart Roon.
RoonServer might not be running in the background. Do you see the Roon logo in the Menu Bar on your Mac? You can also check in Activity Monitor if RoonServer is running.
Lastly, do you have a Backup of your Roon database available? If so, you can navigate back to the login page (close out of Roon re-open) and then restore a Backup by following these steps:
I am running MacOS Sequoia 15.6.1. Toggled Roon anyways, but no change.
I do not see the Roon logo. I am attaching a screen shot from Activity Monitor. Activity Monitor exceeds my technical IQ, so you’ll have to tell me if this shows that Roon is running or not.
Yes, I have a backup. Question: will this repopulate my on-computer files as well as cloud?
HOWEVER - there is a more important issue lurking here. I have lost access to Roon for at least six months. I need to understand what happened if I am to continue to use this system. Right now my confidence is badly shaken.
ALSO - I would be happy to have a trustworthly Roon tech person access my computer to help diagnose this problem.
That’s correct — to run the Roon Server locally, you should select “Use This Mac” to start the Roon Server on your current computer.
However, I do not see RoonServer on the page link.
Just to clarify, the information you found online is outdated. While we used to have separate installation packages for Roon and Roon Server, we’ve now consolidated them into a single installer that includes both components.
I would be happy to have a trustworthy Roon tech person access my computer to help diagnose this problem.
I’m afraid we don’t offer phone or remote access support sessions at this time.
Yes, I have a backup. Question: will this repopulate my on-computer files as well as cloud?
Roon does not use any cloud-based database — all backups and data are stored locally.
To conclude, please click “Use This Mac” to start the Roon Server and proceed with the login process. Let us know how it goes afterward.
