Describe the issue
I am running Roon Core on a headless Mac Mini M1 with an SDD attached to it, and connected via ethernet. This has worked great.
But I cannot login to Tidal anymore, it go into a doom loop of:
Connect Tidal in Roon Services menu Login to Tidal via web Successfully authenticate Go back to Roon where is says ‘Waiting for Tidal’ ad infinitum
I’ve rebooted machine many times, I’ve deleted Roon cache and Roon Server Cache ‘bits’ file
And nothing works, any other ideas?
Describe your network setup
hardwired Mac Mini has worked without problems for 5 years
Thanks for writing in, and I’m sorry to hear about your issue accessing Tidal.
To confirm, which additional browsers have you tested so far? Try Chrome or Firefox if you haven’t yet, and let me know how it goes.
It may also be worth testing your macOS firewall - if you temporarily disable your firewall, are you able to connect?
If that doesn’t help, and if your Mac Mini is using your ISP’s default DNS, it can cause “Waiting for Tidal” timeouts.
Go to System Settings > Network > Ethernet > Details > DNS.
Add 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare).
Apply the changes and restart the Roon Server. This often resolves the "Waiting for..." hang immediately.
If your Mac Mini is running a recent version of macOS (Ventura or Sonoma), ensure iCloud Private Relay is turned OFF. Private Relay can mask the IP of the machine in a way that prevents the Tidal authentication return-trip from identifying your Roon Server.
Thanks for the update. Since Chrome and Firefox both behaved the same, and your firewall plus iCloud Private Relay are already off, we’re narrowing this down a bit further.
What kind of Remote are you using to try to log in? Is the behavior the same from multiple Roon Remotes?
This looks like a session in an authentication issue, potentially caused by a bad token that was cached somewhere. Moving forward, try closing Roon entirely across all your devices and then rebooting the server.
We’re going to mark this resolved but please reach out if this occurs and we’ll pick up the case.
