Describe the issue

Since few days ago (maybe earlier since it's specific to the format), I'm unable to play some TIDAL songs. I get the "TIDAL media is loading slowly" message and Roon either stops or skips.

As far as I saw, this happens only for 192/24 FLAC format. 48 or 96kHz seems to be ok.

It's not a problem with internet or local network speed and Tidal player works fine.

Describe your network setup

Roon server is run on Synology, Matrix streamer is running on the local network.

How is your Roon Server connected to the network. Through WiFi or Ethernet? I’ve had similar issues in the past with my Roon Server when it was connected to my router through WiFI. After connecting the Server to the router through an Ethernet cable, all issues have disappeared.

No wifi in the chain and nothing has changed in my setup.

There were various problems with playback in the past, but this one seems new…

Problems with streaming larger resolution files is usually a network issue.

Like how? Raw 192/24 is 9mbit/s, my internet is 2gbit/s, my home network is 10gbit/s.

High-quality video is reproduced without any glitches, and 192/24 FLAC from Tidal worked flawlessly a week or so ago.

Hey @gmit2,

Thanks for writing in and sharing your issue!

Could you next please navigate to Roon Settings>Services>Tidal>Edit and snap a screenshot of your streaming quality settings?

With that, we were able to review a fresh diagnostic report from your Roon Server, and observed network throttling that ultimately led to dropouts and stoppage of playback:

Trace: [Matrix Audio mini-i Pro 3] [zoneplayer/raat] too many dropouts. stopping stream
Info: FTMSI-B ti/8337280E: allocated bw changed from 51200 to 0 kbps
Warn: [zone Matrix Audio mini-i Pro 3] Track Stopped Due to Slow Media

I’d next investigate if you can allocate additional network priority to your server machine as well. :+1:

Mhm, I have resolved the problem - I have reset my Matrix streamer and now it started working. :man_facepalming:

Sorry.

To answer the question - the quality setting was max.

Mhm, this would be easier if Roon complained more clearly - it said “TIDAL media is loading slowly” which pointed me to Tidal, while Roon knew that the problem is at the Matrix streamer side…

Anyhow, thanks!

Hi @gmit2,

We’re glad to hear the issue is resolved. A word of caution concerning your suggestion, however, - the specific error, “TIDAL Media is loading slowly,” does indicate that the download from their servers to your own is not keeping pace with the audio stream. If you’ve seen this error, it’s worth investigating the upstream connection between RoonServer and the internet in addition to resetting the Matrix.

Thanks!
