Describe the issue

Deleted albums are stuck in the "listen later" list and can't be removed. I recently unsubbed from Qobuz because I now exclusively use Tidal. Some of these Qobuz albums were in my "listen later" list. Although the albums themselves are not in my library anymore, they still appear in the "listen later" section and I can't remove them. When I click on the 3 dots and then on "remove from Listen Later", nothing happens and the albums still appear. Albums that have already been played also remain visible, even after clicking "clear all played". Rebooting the core doesn't help.

Describe your network setup

Has nothing to do with network, network works fine.

Hello @AnthonyH

I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.

However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.

First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I just tried deleting several albums from my “Listen Later” list at 16:53 local time today… . If it helps, there are several albums by Roman Ridder, Prins Thomas and Rival Consoles which are concerned by this issue. When I click the cover image Roon displays a message “This album was not found”, which makes sense since these were Qobuz albums which I now replaced with a Tidal version. But when clicking on “remove from listen later” nothing happens. Below one example.

If this can be easily fixed by manually editing some XML or similar file on my ROCK I’m willing to do so.

Good day @AnthonyH !

Would that be possible for you to temporarily connect Qobuz account back to your Roon integration and try to delete the listen later queue again and then disconnect it ?

Also, please try to update your software and try again, we have just released a new update that brings some stability improvements.

Thanks!

Regards.

Hi, I reconnected my Qobuz account and updated to the latest version, but it didn’t make a difference. When connecting to Qobuz Roon tells me to “upgrade my account”, which I suppose happens because I don’t have a running subscription. In short, I still can’t remove these albums from my “listen later” list. Isn’t there a way to simply clear the listen later list completely, I don’t mind starting fresh as long as it removes the deleted albums.

Hi @AnthonyH,

Thanks for giving that a try! Let’s see if clearing your Qobuz cache may help:

  • Stop Roon Server from running in the Web UI
  • Find and open your RoonServer database
  • Navigate to RoonServer/Cache
  • Move the contents of the /Cache folder elsewhere, like your desktop
  • Try restarting Roon Server via the WebUI and verify if the issue still occurs

Let me know how the above goes! :+1:

Hi,

I did what you asked (deleted all the files under roonserver/cache… there were like a billion files there for some reason). I don’t know if that was supposed to clear the “listen later” list but unfortunately it didn’t and I found it in exactly the same state as before I cleared the cache. The old Qobuz albums are still appearing and I can’t remove them. Hopefully you have more ideas to fix it

Thanks

Got it - thanks for giving that a try @AnthonyH!

As a next step, could you please head to your Roon Settings > Library > Clean up Library.

From there, you may see some of the issue albums - you can perform a library clean up, but note that it’ll permanently remove any of the files from your Roon database.

Feel free to share a screenshot of this library clean-up box as well. Thank you!

I already did that, shortly after I cleared the cache. I can’t remember exactly what it said but there were around 200 files the needed to be cleaned, which is less than what I would expect if it was related to the albums stuck in “listen later”. Anyways, I didn’t notice any difference. Right now there are 0 files the clean up.

Hey @AnthonyH,

My apologies here if we’ve already glazed over this - but if you first add the issue albums to your library, then reboot your server and attempt to delete them from listen later, are you successful?

For example, I see the Prins Thomas album is available to be added to your library. I’m hoping Roon will create a fresh object ID when doing so, and then will be able to remove it.

Let me know if this helps!

So, I tried re-adding a problem album to Listen Later, rebooting, and removing it again from LL, that didn’t help but I noticed it did something else that I didn’t expect: when trying to remove the old Qobuz album, it actually removes the new Tidal version instead … not helpful. I recreated the issue in the video below with and album called The Planets by Roman Ridder, as it’s on top of the list so it’s easy to see what’s going on.

FYI, in the second part of the video I show another scenario with an album that got stuck in LL, and this time Qobuz has nothing to do with it: the album ‘Tohu Bohu’ by Rone was added in LL from Tidal when I added the Deluxe version of that album. Later I decided I didn’t want all the bonus tracks and replaced it by the standard version. Because of that I couldn’t remove the Deluxe version from LL anymore. I managed to clear that one by re-adding the Deluxe version in my library, removing it from LL which now worked, then removed it from my library again. So that case is cleared. But for all the old Qobuz albums I can’t to this because I don’t have a subscription anymore, so they are still stuck.

I’m thinking about subbing to Qobuz for another month, so I can repeat the process that worked with the Rone album, but my fear is that Roon won’t be able to reconnect these stuck entries from LL with the actual Qobuz versions and the issue wouldn’t be solved … and I will have lost a monthly subscription fee.

I cleaned up my listen later list with everything I could and I have 24 albums stuck in listen later, and another 20 in already played section.

At this point I guess I’ll have to live with 44 ghost albums stuck in my LL, hoping that one day you’ll release a bug fix that allows to remove albums even when they’re not in the library anymore.

Hey @AnthonyH,

Thanks for giving that a try, and for the additional information! We have a ticket in with the team to investigate things further - I don’t have any immediate next steps for you quite yet, so I appreciate your ongoing patience here.

We’ll follow up with more information as soon as possible! :folded_hands:

Hey @AnthonyH,

Apologies for the delay here - our team has yet to succesfully reproduce the issue on our end.

Do you by chance have a recently saved backup? If not, could you please create a fresh backup or two, and then test out refreshing your Roon Server database? You can perform this action from the webUI of your ROCK - more info here:

This will wipe all your current database settings, so it’ll appear like you’re just starting Roon for the first time. Restoring the backup you’ve saved may very well clear the stale files causing issues here.

Let me know how the above goes, thanks Anthony!

Hi @benjamin,

I’ve done this which was a bit nerve wrecking and I had to reinstall the ffmpeg codec file.

When I reconnected to the ROCK from a Roon client, I restored from the backup I just made.

It took a bit of time for the server to become responsive, but unfortunately, I found the LL section exactly like I left it before the reset, including the old albums I can’t remove.

So, no success. :sob:

Hello @AnthonyH

We’ve discussed this with our senior QA and development teams. The team is investigating some possibilities here and, as soon as that investigation is complete, we’ll be sure to follow up ASAP.

You have our apologies for the trouble here, and we’ve greatly appreciated your patience as we continue investigating this tricky issue. We’ll be in touch as soon as we can.
