Unable to restart Roon Server on NUC ROCK after update (ref#N75GYQ)

What’s happening?

· Roon won’t start, update, or finish installing

Describe the issue

When I connect to my ROCK running locally on my NUC, then the Roon Server is not running. Clicking Start gives a "Restart Error" which says "Roon Server could not be successfully restarted. Please try rebooting, or contact support." Rebooting does not solve the problem. This inability to restart manifested after a recent Roon update. Everything else on the WebUI has a green "OK".

Hey @simon.walker,

Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report! We were able to enable diagnostic mode for your Roon Server, and saw a few interesting things.

First, we see the date/time bouncing between (2019 → 2025). That kind of jump usually means the system clock was wrong at boot, then got corrected by NTP. While not necessarily urgent, it may be worth inspecting the CMOS battery. When it’s dead, the system forgets the date/time at every reboot.

We also saw some SATA hardware-level I/O errors - it may be worth inspecting your SATA cable as well - it could be a loose, oxidized, or kinked cable that causes transient bus errors.

Are you able to access the webUI of your ROCK?

And, do you have a recently saved backup?

Thank you! :folded_hands:

Hi @simon.walker,

It looks like a ROCK associated with your account has pinged our servers since you last posted, running the latest RoonServer build.

Are we correct in assuming you’ve been able to resolve this problem? Please reach out if we can assist with anything else.

Thank you!
