Unable to restore Music Library from backup data (ref#VUFUQE)

After an update the database could not be loaded. I followed the instruction to rename the RoonServer folder to RoonServer_old and then reboot. System is working well now.
My problem is now that I was not able to restore the full music library because there were some issues with the backups (my fault…) I have lost the changes of the last 18 months in my music library.
Yesterday everything was working well and nothing has changed - it was just the most recent update which caused the trouble.
My question is: The missing music library is still located in the folder RoonServer_old - how can I restore it?
Help would me much appreciated - Thank You!

I don’t think you can. You can only restore whatever backups you have saved. I save every night.

That said, you might could rename RoonServer_old to RoonServer if you first rename RoonServer to something else. However, you would just be back to your original problem even if that works. I suppose you could reinstall Roon first incase that is the issue, but doesn’t sound like it since it’s working now with a restored database.

I wonder if you could install Roon on another computer and copy the RoonServer_old to there, then rename as Roon_Server and see what happens.

Of course, it’s likely that database is somehow corrupted and will not work regardless.

Hey @Guido_Berger,

Thanks for writing in, it’s good to see you on the community again!

@Jim_F is correct in the above statement -

Also true statements. If you’re able to fully restore a backup prior to the issues you’re facing, that may be a safer bet as well.

Let me know if you’re able to give the above a try!

I don’t think I would try the first option lest you might screw up something else. Trying on a second computer makes more sense, I think.

And, you probably know this, but you can have two Roon servers and switch back and forth by authorizing one and unauthorizing the other without a second Roon subscription.

I did not visit the community because I had experienced almost 5 years without any issues regarding roon itself  Maybe that was the reason why I neglected the backup recently.

The only problems I had were related with network and wifi issues, I solved those with LAN cables

I tried the above mentioned on a laptop an did not touch nucleus - but unfortunately
it did not work.

Why are the playlists and other stuff not stored additionaly in a format which is readable for humans, or xml?
Is it possible to read the cpontent af the database with an other software? If so, I could rebuild my favorite playlists manualy (…hoping)

Hey @Guido_Berger,

This unfortunately isn’t possible at this time. I’d suggest restoring a backup prior to your issues and see if you experience the same database errors.

Hi benjamin,
what do you mean with “restoring a backup prior to your issues”?
The issue started after the latest update. Can I install a previous version of roon? If so, how can I do it?

Hey @Guido_Berger,

I’m sorry for any confusion! While it’s not possible to install previous versions of Roon, I want to clarify that your issue doesn’t appear to be related to any recent Roon update. What I meant was restoring your database from a backup that predates the problems you’re experiencing.

Outside of that, the best next step would be to start with a fresh database and re-import your content.
