Record the timestamp

· (Finishing my email of a few minutes ago). Oddly, the unit did start running briefly this past Thursday night, I at least got it logged into my iMac. But I couldn't work any further at that time. I closed the Mac and tried to take it up first thing Friday morning. But no luck then or in the 72 hours+ since. Last failed atttempt was at 4:05 pm (EST) today, Sunday, January 11, 2026.

Describe the issue

I have had a Roon subscription for 2+ years. I would describe the experiece in opening and using the APP as "flukey." I try to run it on a Small Gree Computer sonicTransporter i7 CDR (which is running sonic orbiter OS 2.9.
In December of 2025, I sent it back to SGC and paid $100 to have them install wha they described as a major upgrade. I couldn't get Roon running once the unit was returened about one year ago.
To be fair, I haven't tried intensely to get the unit working because I was pre-occupied with some family and health issues. But I have spent an estimated 20+ hours in the past week to try to get it started.

Describe your network setup

I have most of my set up from PSAudio -- FR5 Speakers, two REL subwoofers, VPI turntable, Stellar phono pre-amp, PSA Perfectwave disc transport, PSA Audiolens streamer, DAC, Pre-amp, Stellar M700 Mono Amplifier, Directstream Power Plant 12 with mostly Audio Quest cables and a Small Green Computer i7 sonicTransporter running 2.9 software, and an optical Rendu unit.
The internet connection is through Verizon FIOS account, with an Ethernet wire running directly from router to hi-fi equipment and iMac. System is working very well, except for the ROON program, e.g., runs Quboz, Tidal and Audirvana as well as usual. I use two Trendnet switches to make the various cabe connections.

Please post screenshots of what you are seeing.

How to:

Assuming your SGC device is running and connected to your network… what do you see when you goto this address on any other device (like a phone or tablet) that is also on your network?

Hello @Gerald_Shea,

Thank you for the detailed background — that helps a lot.

We checked your Roon account on our side, and we can confirm that your Roon Server has not checked in with Roon’s cloud services for over two weeks. In other words, from Roon’s perspective, there has been no active Roon Server online during that time.

Because your system is running Small Green Computer sonicTransporter (SonicOrbiter OS 2.9) and not ROCK, we do not have direct visibility into:

• whether RoonServer is actually running
• whether it is crashing on startup
• whether it is blocked by the OS
• or whether it is unable to reach the internet

Roon diagnostics are only available once the server successfully connects to our cloud — which has not happened in your case.

This means the failure is occurring before Roon ever comes online, at the OS / platform layer.

Since SGC performed a major OS upgrade on your unit, this is something that must be validated on their side. We strongly recommend contacting Small Green Computer support and asking them to confirm:

  • Is the RoonServer service running?
  • Is it allowed to access the network?

If SGC confirms that RoonServer is running and online but still cannot reach Roon’s servers, we will of course continue from there — but right now the platform itself is preventing Roon from starting correctly.

Let us know once you’ve heard back from SGC.

Hi @Gerald_Shea,

Our diagnostic servers still don’t have a connection to the SGC. Are you able to provide a set of logs to our team manually?

You can use these instructionsto access the database and locate the RoonServer folder. On your SGC, this will be the file folder location where you’ve installed Roon. This will be a folder named Logs within the RoonServer folder itself. Please zip that folder and upload it to our secure servers using this File Uploader.

We’ll watch for your reply. Thank you!
