Description of Issue
Port forwarding is configured correctly, and Roon ARC works perfectly when I’m connected to a mobile network (I can play tunes stored on the NUC and stream from Qobuz).
The problem is when using Android Auto [AA] (Galaxy S9, Skoda Octavia IV), I can’t search my library:
Last played tracks and Roon playlists show up fine in AA. However, when I go in to my Library section and pick Artists, Albums, a spinning circle progress bar starts, and that’s it: it stays forever on the spinning circle. The annoying thing is that sometimes it works, I get a keyboard where I can type the first letter of an artist, and be presented with their work, but when I go back to the Artists menu again, the spinning circle shows. This is 100% repeatable. When it does work, it seems to be the first time I try to use AA for the day. (My phone gets switched off every night).
The Qobuz app had a similar problem when they first launched AA. I reported it and they were able to make a software change to fix it.
Thank you for the report. We’ve identified an error in your ARC diagnostics related to the playback engine implementation plugin in this particular setup and have escalated to the team.
We’ll respond as soon as we have a workaround available or next troubleshooting steps. Tech support will sync with our QA team and development and circle back to you shortly.
Thank you for your patience while the team investigated this case more closely. Are you able to reproduce this once more on the most recent ARC build and supply us with an approximate timestamp of when it occurred?
Our developers working on Android Auto will take the log pull and isolate what’s happening - we should be able to provide a workaround, if not a clean permanent fix, from there.
We appreciate your help and understanding. Thank you again.
I don’t think I have the latest version of Arc, yet. The one available to me in the Android app store is 1.0, build 150. You should see crashes around 2023-03-31T19:12
Thank you for your patience - I know this issue has plagued your listening for some time without clear resolution.
We continue to investigate diagnostics from your account that should equip us to roll out connectivity improvements for Android Auto soon. How has your experience been on the more recent builds?
@connor I tried again last night with Arc 177, and apart from having no artwork, I was successfully able to search my library by Artist or Album, on a repeatable basis. I have no explanation for this - I’ll repeat the test later.
Thank you once again for the update. We’ll investigate around that timestamp (the team is currently putting some work in around the issues you’re experiencing, so this should be quite illuminating).
I am using the most recent builds of ARC (downloaded last night) and Core.
I’m glad to report that there is some improvement. I am now able to browse from the Albums menu consistently. However, I am still having problems when trying to browse by Artist.
From a cold boot, I was able to go in to the Artist’s menu, choose one, and play an album, but when I tried to go into the Artist’s menu a second time - to pick someone else - all I get is a spinning circle (hourglass).
Timestamp 2023-08-18T10:07 in the log file should get you there.
I tried Roon Arc a few days ago, and unfortunately it is still crashing when trying to load my library. To be honest, I have been been using the Qobuz app with Android Auto in recent times, as it works flawlessly.
