Unable to select Nucleus as server, stuck on previous laptop server (ref#33N0VG)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· I cannot get my Roon OS to allow me to select my Nucleus as my server. It is trying to get me to switch to my previous server, my laptop. I am stuck in that I cannot access settings to deselect my laptop as a server option. If I do switch licensing to the laptop. will I then be able to access settings, deselect the laptop as a server option, and then will the Nucleus be the designated server again and will I have lost the playlists and history from the Nucleus?

Tell us about your home network

· Hytron Modem with TP-Link Deco Wi-Fi mesh (3 total). Roon Nucleus server is connected to a D-Link switch

The screenshot shows that the Nucleus and Roon Server are running, and that the app is connected.

Please click on < Go back, and post a screenshot.

Thanks for the response, Jack. Yes, that is what the screenshot is showing. However, if I don’t want to select the other server (laptop) I have no way to go back to the Roon OS. There is no way to get to settings, music files, etc. It is just perpetually stuck on that screen regardless of if I am trying to access it via iPhone or PC. Unless there is a simple step I am not seeing.

Click on < Go back, and then outside the pop-up.

I know and see the “Go Back” link, but I swear, for some reason, it wasn’t allowing me to use that function. I will try again as soon as I am back on my network and will report back. Thanks for your help!

When I select “Go Back” as shown on the screenshot I submitted, it just goes to “Connect to your Roon Server” and displays my old laptop. If I then select “Configure Roon OS Devices” it displays my Nucleus and it’s IP Address. If I select that, it just displays the server settings. I CANNOT GET PAST THIS and it’s a cycling exercise of back and forth.

As I said, click outside the pop-up box, i.e., the grey area.

If you haven’t signed in, go to Settings → General, and, if needed Disconnect from the old server, so you may log in to the Nucleus.

Hey, @gregnettles62.

According to our diagnostic system, your Nucleus does not appear to be online at the moment. Can you please confirm that the Nucleus is online and that you can access the Web Interface by clicking the IP address from your Roon OS Devices screenshot?

If it is accessible, can you please try a full reboot of your Nucleus, your Roon Remote apps, and your networking gear to see if that helps? Let us know!

Yes, the Nucleus is online. I shut down the entire network, rebooted and still not able to get to the Nucleus as my server. Deleted the Roon apps from devices, and still not able to get access. When I try to “Go Back” to previous server, Roon keeps trying to get me to sign in again. When I do, it says “already signed in” and then tries to connect me to one of two previous servers, as I have tried to connect to anything I can to get back into the Roon settings so I can delete those devices and just have my Nucleus as the only authorized server. I really wish I could talk to someone or get on a call with someone and screenshare so I can better communicate my issues.

I appreciate your help, as I know I am probably just an idiot and rightfully so when it comes to networking devices and troubleshooting.

Hey @gregnettles62,

No need to apologize at all, networking gremlins like this trip up plenty of people. Let’s get you sorted.

Here’s the key thing from our end: even though the Nucleus shows up on your local network (in the Roon OS Devices list at 192.168.68.69), our diagnostics aren’t seeing your Nucleus come online at all. That mismatch is almost certainly why you’re stuck in the loop, the app can see the Nucleus listed, but it can’t actually connect to it, so it keeps falling back to offering the other servers it can reach (your Windows machines, “This PC” and “AVIPF3T4YE3”).

So before anything else, let’s confirm what the Nucleus itself is actually doing:

  1. Connect the Nucleus directly to a TV or monitor via HDMI. This brings up its status screen and tells us instantly whether it's fully booted, what IP it's on, and whether it's reporting any error. This is the fastest way to see the real state of the unit.
  2. Try loading its web interface. From a browser on the same network, go to http://192.168.68.69. If that page loads and shows the Nucleus as healthy, great, if it doesn't load, that confirms the Nucleus isn't reachable and points us at a network/hardware issue rather than a Roon settings issue.
On your data question, you won't lose anything. Authorizing a different server doesn't delete the playlists, history, or settings stored on the Nucleus. But rather than migrating you onto the laptop, we'd much rather get the Nucleus back online and reauthorized as your one server, since that's clearly what you want.

One more note: the “AVIPF3T4YE3” and “This PC” entries are separate Windows PCs also running Roon Server. Since your license only runs one server at a time, having those extra installs in the mix adds to the confusion. Once we get the Nucleus confirmed online, we’ll get it reauthorized and can clean up the rest.

Can you grab a photo of the HDMI status screen (and let us know if the web interface loads)? That’ll tell us exactly where the Nucleus is stuck. :+1:

Benjamin,
Thank you! I appreciate your help. And yes, I would love to get the Nucleus back up and running, and get both of my previous laptops disconnected as potential servers.
I am attaching the image from the Nucleus via HDMI to a monitor so you can see the current state.
Also, a screenshot of the outcome of trying to reach the web interface is shown (unable to reach the IP address).
Let me know what next steps might be, if you can. I have to work during the day and I am here in Idaho (MST) so will try to do whatever suggestions you have when I am able to be here at home.
Thanks again. I cannot tell you how appreciative I am of everyone’s help!

From a browser on the same network, go to http://192.168.68.63.

Hi MJW,
Yes, I can go to the IP address you pointed me to http://192.168.68.63. What I cannot do is get to the IP address Benjamin requested me to try and access the web interface, which is . http://192.168.68.69

That’s because the Nucleus isn’t at that address: it’s at http://192.168.68.63.

Please share a screenshot of the web interface.

Can you also try http://nucleusone.local in another browser window.

Likewise, when you open the Roon GUI, please navigate to Settings → General (go no further), and share a screenshot (don’t worry about showing your email address—I’ll remove it straightaway.)

Screenshot was from earlier this AM. When I get back to my home, I will share the other screenshot of the GUI as you requested. However, I don’t believe I am able to access any of the Settings as you mentioned. But I will send over as soon as I am able to.
Thanks again for the help.

You aren’t signed in.

1. So, open Roon, and if your greeted with a login message as follows, login to Roon with your subscription credentials. This will open your web browser.

2. Once logged in, select your Roon server, i.e., the Nucleus One. The screen should look similar to this.

3. If you are already signed in to another server, go to Settings → General, and in the box at the top of the page, click on Disconnect.

Once logged out, you will see a screen as shown in 2. above.Connect to the Nucleus One.

As mentioned before, when I log in, this what I come to. And again, my fault for trying to find some way to connect to anything so that I can get into the settings and disconnect the previous server options.
I am wondering if, at this point, do I just unauthorize the Nucleus and then once I am able to access the settings add it back in as the server?
Sorry for the back and forth, and I am sure I am missing something, but at that tipping point of not knowing what to do without causing more issues.

Click on Oops, I meant to run as remote control, and then post a screenshot of Settings → General.
