For Roon connectivity to work properly, both Roon Server and Roon Remote need to be turned on.
· I can't turn on Roon Server, I need help.
Describe the issue
As part of my Nugs account, I was offered a 60 day trial subscription for Roon. I have a lot of music on an external hard drive that I would like to stream remotely alongside my Quboz and Nugs streaming accounts and when I read about Roon I thought it was the perfect solution.
However, reflecting on my initial setup I think I made an error. I began by downloading Roon to my laptop (Microsoft Surface) and connected my USB External Hard Drive to begin syncing my library.
Then I realised the best way to do things would be to set up the server and sync my hard drive using my PC (Acer Aspire C24), that way I wouldn't have to keep my laptop constantly connected to the USB Hard Drive.
Now, when I load Roon on my PC it can't set up a server on my PC. I have tried deauthorising the laptop and also tried doing a full system restore to remove the original Roon download and start the process again, but nothing seems to be working. All it does is attempt and fail to start the server.
Can you post details of the Acer Aspire C24? CPU, RAM, is it connected wired or wireless?
Is it directly connected to the router/modem or is there a switch involved?
What OS is on the Acer?
Have you “allowed” Roon through any firewalls on the Acer?
see here:
Also, can you post a screen shot of what happens when you try starting the Roon App on the Acer?
Thanks for getting in touch. I’m sorry to hear you’re encountering this issue. Could you please share a screenshot of what you see when launching Roon on your Windows PC?
If you don’t plan on using Roon on your Surface laptop, please uninstall it from there or ensure that Roon Server isn’t running on the Surface while you’re setting it up on your Windows PC. Additionally, please bring your Roon installation on the Windows PC online so we can retrieve a diagnostics report to assist you further.
Just checking in on this. Were you able to send over a screenshot of what Roon shows when you launch it on the Windows PC, and if you’re not planning to use the Surface, either uninstall Roon there or make sure Roon Server is not running while you set things up on the Windows machine? Once the Windows PC is online, we can check for a diagnostics report from it and take a closer look. Please reply with any updates or questions.
Thank you everyone for your responses. I have been very busy with work, so my apologies for not responding to you. I have just had a few days off to look at it properly and have got it all working now.
