· I can't get Roon server going on my QNAP NAS. it was stopped and cannot get started again. I stopped and restarted Roon, removed and reinstalled Roon, shut off and restarted my NAS, latest software update installed. Nothing can get Roon to start on my NAs. On my PC Roon works correct. I have also reached out to QNAP thru their helpdesk.

The Roon Server package no longer works, please switch to the official Docker image to run Roon Server on your NAS. See also:
Hey @Willem_Badenhop,
Thanks for writing in! @BlackJack is correct with the above reply. Let us know if you experience any issues or have any questions along the way.
Thanks a lot for your response! I have been able to use it but when copying the code snippet into the Container I get additional questions under “advanced settings’ (Service and portnr) which I don’t understand. It’s a lot of hassle to get Roon up and running again, after the last update. It worked fine over the past years. It looks like Roon is not working well on QNAP anymore. On my PC’s I have no problems at all, just on the QNAP NAS
Best, Wim
There are no instructions given for “Advanced Setting” because users are supposed to let them be. There is nothing that needs to be done in there.
Hi Willem. I have the same issue and will follow along with you. Mark
Hi,
The service seems to install when accepting the default Application name: app-1. However in QTS the server is still stopped. Although the Roon download symbol is working nothing really happens. Chat GPT actually states that Roon does not actively support QNAP anymore and advises to look for other Roon server solutions like ASUS NUC or fanless pc’s…
Again, the old Roon Server Package is no longer working. There is no point looking at its configuration interface anymore. Please go to the App Center and stop the Roon Server app that shows there for the time being - you can remove there too but I would wait, just to be sure, until the new installation works for you.
You believe anything an AI tells you? You got pointed at the official guide from Roon Labs on how to install Roon Server on QNAP NAS’ (using Docker, a container solution most any other NAS and even some regular PCs support too). Of course you are free to look at other ways to run Roon Server too at any time.
I did not know that Roon server on QNAP does not work anymore (and to hear that from you, which I appreciate). The container solution does not work yet, but that may well be due to my lack of understanding. I will keep trying but another server is something I do consider.
Thanks for your support
i just upgraded my QNap 251+ to 8GB. Still doesn’t work. I cannot upgrade my Container Station to newer version, allowing me to use Docker. so, the only ay around (if I get this correctly) is to use my PC s a Roon base. comments, anyone?
what about Nucleus? thoughts ??
Hi Louis,
Somehow I managed to get mine working through the Roonlabs instruction https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/installing-roonserver-on-qnap-with-docker
The alternative is to get remote support from QNAP helpdesk
Or, switch to a NUC or mini pc
Best, Wim
