Describe the issue

I am unable to upgrade to the latest software version. Currently on Roon Server Version 2.0 (Build 1470). When I try to upgrade it says: "There is an update waiting to be downloaded." I click to download it, it says it's downloading the update, then the following message pops up: "There was an error checking for an update."

I'm running Roon on a 2024 Mac Mini, Apple M4 Pro chip and Mac OS Sequoia 15.3.1

Describe your network setup

I have Xfinity fiber optic Gigabit internet service through a Netgear CM-1150V modem. I use an Orbi Mesh router system, but the Mac Mini I run Roon on is connected directly to the Orbi RBR50 router with an Ethernet cable.

Hi @James_Manning,
Thanks for reaching out to us for help with this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  1. Restart your Roon server device.
  2. Let’s try a fresh database and see if your issues persist:
  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

Here is the process outlined from a macOS machine:

I noticed that your server is more than one version behind. Did you just notice this issue with updating recently?

Daniel:

I followed your instructions and… IT WORKED! One question: is it safe to delete the “ROON_OLD" and "ROON SERVER_OLD” files now? They’re fairly large at about 3 GB total.

You asked if I just noticed that the version was out of date. Yes, I was reading about OPRA in an email, so I went to try it and found that feature didn’t exist. That’s why I looked at the version, and tried to update the version to Build 1510, but ran into issues. Note: automatic updates WAS tuned on.

Thanks very much!

Hi @James_Manning,
Yes you can delete the old files.
